Department of Indian Affairs instead of the local authority of the United States within which they are geographically based. A lot of Native Americans live in these reservations under devastating conditions which have destructive, and long-lasting impacts. Regular life in these reservations is very challenging. Despite their best efforts, the living standards on reservations are not favorable and are sometimes equivalent to those of a third-world nation. Congested housing is prevalent and mostly poor quality. Life for many residents on the reserve is in a poverty cycle. Reservation health coverage is the responsibility of the Indian healthcare services, but it is poorly funded and, in certain instances, basically non-existent. Population health is generally feeble with many suffering from lifestyle-related illnesses such as heart problems and diabetes. Infant death rates are slightly higher for Indians than for whites, and alcohol and substance misuse are on the rise. Crime is also a significant problem and is becoming more prevalent. Most inhabitants abandon reserves to metropolitan areas in pursuit of jobs and better living standards.

These groups work closely to tackle safety problems and rising violence. Community law policing focuses on the idea that the local society will collaborate and initiate steps and deter crime rather than leaving all the responsibility to the authorities. Community Policing strengthens the authority's efficiency in tackling crime, ensuring the community is secure, cohesive and resourceful, which translates to successful policing. Although it will not eradicate crime, community policing can be the first step to improve policing in these reservations.
