Conflict is a common experience in human life be it among, family, friends, neighbors, political groups, religious groups, and colleagues. In each case, there is a clear incidence of a disagreement whereby the involved parties fail to come to a common understanding. William Ury, recognizes such cases have been occurring far too often in the modern times that it is essential to take note of a solution (2010). The speaker refers to such conflicts as difficult negotiations where individuals are unable to to arrive at a common conclusion without engaging in war. The severity of going to such conclusions is very dangerous considering that majority of the countries in the world have developed weapons of mass destruction (Ury, 2010). As a result, developing measures that can be undertaken to help minimize outcomes of mass bloodshed is of particular importance. The best approach is seen as taking a step back and coming up with a solution that was not previously on the table.

The video primarily discusses social conflict with key reference to the Middle East and the Western countries. Ury notes that the key to bringing a solution for the unending conflict between the two parties is simple, but not easy. The key is “us” referring to all affected members of the two groups. The primary actors of the conflict are not usually able to make appropriate decisions during the incidence (Ury, 2010). As a result, the individuals surrounded by the conflict should be take part in developing a critical and effective solution. The system takes the assumption that many at times, social conflicts as such between the Middle East and the West usually have two sides. Therefore, the people who can help find a solution ought to identify the “Third Side” (Ury, 2010). This recognizes the alternative that will bring about a sense of togetherness and restore peace in the global environment.
