An article on the national review discussed a republican senator’s act that’s seeks to mandate every state to report abortion statistics to the CDC. This comes after several red states passed anti-abortion laws. The new legislation offers wants to find the number of infants that are born alive after an attempted abortion. A lot of states do not have any real abortion statistics because they get them from volunteers. The law proposes that states that will not report these statistics to have their healthcare fund reduced from the national government. The article insists that despite the insistence of pro-choice advocates, there are fetus who come out alive after an abortion attempt. Liberals insist there is no need for abortion statistics, but the republican senators want the law looked passed. (DESANCTIS, 2019)
This article promotes the conservative stand on abortion and federalism. Conservatives traditionally have been opposed to abortion as it is against the Judeo-Christian faiths and it ‘corrodes’ family values (Stanford, 2013) . The conservative stand is that abortion is killing and this is why these senators want to compel states to provide abortion data where fetuses are aborted alive. This is one way to show that abortion is actual murder. Conservative governing concept is that of decentralized system. Recently, there have been moves by the conservative controlled supreme court to curtail certain liberal concepts such as minority rights and women rights (Schwartz, 2011) . The move by the senators to force federal governments to report abortion statistics can be seen as a move to limit federal authorities and promote conservative principles. Senators also want healthcare funds to be reduced for states that do not report abortion statistics. It’s another concept of conservatism where they oppose involuntary collectivism.
