As I reflect on the readings, some very important theories of sociology that caught my attention are symbolic interactionism and contemporary sociology theories. Societies are always evolving, with many things happening either concurrently or separately. Through the lens of these three theories, I can explain personal experiences as well as attempt to explain why some events are happening in the United States.
Through symbolic interactionism, which focuses on the individual, personal experiences, and changes I think I have been egocentric in most cases. My interaction with other people has not changed my personal traits. For instance, I tend to be an introvert by nature, and while I have interacted with many people, many of them possibly extroverts, I have not been influenced at all to change to the latter. I believe that this is true for many other people too; some in-born traits cannot be copied or influenced by other people.

In conclusion, contemporary sociology, I believe the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement best portrays the theory in practice. Contemporary sociologists emphasize on aspects such as inclusivity, diversity, freedom and rights and so are the BLM protesters. The movement agitates for equal rights and opportunities regardless of their racial backgrounds. The view is that every individual should be allowed to progress and that there should be no barriers, restrictions or systematic hindrances that place other groups at a disadvantage. Under contemporary sociology are also feminist sociological theorists who agitate for the emancipation of women and other minority groups to be actively involved in various aspects as well as given opportunities. I believe contemporary sociology is not just a theory but also some kind of activism for emancipation. Instead of theorizing and explaining how and why various events happen, contemporary sociology is also about implementation of actions and steps to achieve the desired goals.
