Mental Illness is a disease whose basis of identity is the mood, and behavior deregulation. Linda Bishop’s story gives an overview of different themes and contradictions concerning mental health treatment, relationship, and control. From her story, Linda was not willing to accept her mental state, and as a result, she was not willing to seek medical attention or any form of treatment. Further, she was not ready to embrace the fact that she was suffering from Bipolar with psychosis. As a result, her refusal brings about a contradiction on whether it was ethical to introduce Linda to psychiatric medication without her consent. Further, the story brings about the issue of ‘insight’ as a significant tool for self-control for those who are suffering from psychological disorders. Linda lacked insight, and thus, she had no self-control of her condition.

Stigma is an issue that reduces a person’s reputation. In Linda’s story, the causes of stigma are the unmet goals and series of offenses in the court. Linda had a chain of crimes in the law court, and as a result, she could not stand the trial, and this led to her admission to a psychiatric hospital. Other than offences, she may have felt unworthy by marrying a person with characters she did not wish.

According to Zasz's idea, there is nothing like mental illness. Szasz asserts that the problems we face in life make us deviate our attention from meeting them, and claim that we are mentally ill to escape such problems. In Linda's story, Zasz’s principle is applicable. Landa had a series of offences. As a result, she could not stand the trial. Probably, coming up with an allegation that she was mentally ill could have been the only way to escape such shame or problems in her life.

Linda’s story may impact people differently. For instance, the positive viewers may understand the story to mean being frank and facing challenges that affect people in life boldly without deviating to things that may shorten life for instance isolation as Linda did. Negative viewers may interpret the story to mean finding an escape alternative for criminals after committing a criminal act.
