From her story, Linda was not willing to accept her mental state, and as a result, she was not willing to seek medical attention or any form of treatment. Further, she was not ready to embrace the fact that she was suffering from Bipolar with psychosis. As a result, her refusal brings about a contradiction on whether it was ethical to introduce Linda to psychiatric medication without her consent. Further, the story brings about the issue of ‘insight’ as a significant tool for self-control for those who are suffering from psychological disorders. Linda lacked insight, and thus, she had no self-control of her condition.
Stigma is an issue that reduces a person’s reputation. In Linda’s story, the causes of stigma are the unmet goals and series of offenses in the court. Linda had a chain of crimes in the law court, and as a result, she could not stand the trial, and this led to her admission to a psychiatric hospital.
