The world is growing every day and developments keep on happening around the world. The biggest engine stimulating the growth of cities across the globe is urbanization. Everyday urbanization makes another big step changing the way the cities of the world look like and operate, thus bringing with it new technologies and innovations. All the same, with urbanization which stimulates growth and development of the world cities it also stimulates the growth and increase of crime and criminal activities within the cities. Major cities in the world like Bangkok, Mumbai and New York keep on growing every day taking every step in development available to become the world’s biggest cities and most innovative across the globe. As they grow, they tend to be pulled behind by the factor of crimes, where many individuals engage in criminal and crime related activities thus distracting the peace of these cities. As the megacities focus and gear towards growth and numerous innovations, the aspect of crime keeps on weighing them down in a more similar way day by day. Megacities have grown very fast becoming even difficult for the governments of the host nations to keep up to the pace of the required resources as well as infrastructure. Instability drivers can be clearly seen since they are already present and are growing every single day (Harris, 2014).

Crime in Bangkok (Thailand)

As Bangkok grows and becoming one of the biggest innovative cities across the globe, it becomes more vulnerable, thus exposed to high level of crimes and criminal related activities not just internally but also externally (terrorism). Bangkok has a high crime rate when compared to the other countries around Asia. The Thai people tend to be very law abiding citizens, but despite this, there is a high number of individuals who abuse drugs within the nation and in the end, it goes hand with petty crimes and thefts among other criminal activities. On some occasions, the crimes escalated to becoming serious (Jeffrey Hays, 2014). Also, a number of unsavory in addition to organized crimes characters are prominent within the city involved in the sex and gambling industries, run and snatch thieves operate within the city of Bangkok on motor scooters snatching people’s things. In order to keep the people safe from snatchers, signs have been placed to help warn the people of the dangers they face within the city. According to the Thailand life, some tips have been provided to help people through the Bangkok city. The first tip is ensuring that the phone should always be kept in the pocket. Leaving the phone on the table in a restaurant or bar would mean that you lose it. Then there is a tip which restricts walking with the handbag facing the roadside (The Thailand Life, 2016). There are numerous tips which are all for the purposes of ensuring the people do not fall victims of the thriving criminal activities which are on the rise within the Bangkok city. Crimes which are sexually-motivated are prominent with their occurrence being within specific locations or sites, mostly beaches, parties or discos (OSAC, 2018). More so, murders and homicides have been reported in the city a number of times, having different victims, including tourists, for instance, the Wendy Albano murder by a man from Mumbai in February 2012 in her hotel room (Express News Service, 2014). Bangkok as much as it is growing to become one of the biggest innovative cities of the world, it still lags behind when it comes to fighting criminals and other crime-related activities which tend to be a threat to the growth of the city.

Crime in Mumbai (India)

Mumbai is the country’s largest as well as the most occupied city. Mumbai has a population of over 21 million people, which makes it be the most populated cities not just in India but across the globe. This city is India’s commercial heart. This city, as much as it thrives to grow, it faces a number of challenges which are all social injustices. Mumbai, apart from being known across the world due to its population and the powerhouse of India, it is also known as the city which has the most number of slums as well as the area covered by the slums in the country. The high number of slums in Mumbai is a clear indication of high criminal activities and crime rates due to unemployment. Across the city, opportunity crimes have gone so far affecting many people, especially tourists who have who have reported cases of snatched handbags, credit cards, stolen passports among other valuables. The occurrence of violent crimes is primarily within the slum areas as well as apartment blocks which are crowded (Safe Around, 2017). As much as Mumbai has a lower crime rate whenever they occur, especially the violent crimes they tend to be very severe. Murders from stabbing tend to be prominent and can happen even in daytime. Crimes that are related to sexual abuse such as rape are considered to be an invisible routine (Barry & Choksi, 2013). Rape criminals are believed to be taking their crimes at the same place every time they spot their victim. The police believe that the casual confidence that rape offenders have seemed to be reinforcing the idea that cases of rape have been largely invincible criminal activities; having infrequent convictions and the victims always go away silently (Barry & Choksi, 2013). Gang rape crimes had risen across Mumbai and despite the intervention by the law, its prevalence it is still high across the city. According to safe around, the overall risk in Mumbai is very high, having travelers as the most prominent victims falling to petty crimes. More so, pickpocketing risks, scams risks, risks associated with terrorism and female traveler's risks among others tend to be high across the city. Taxis and transport risks tend to be at a medium level. What is more, the risk of mugging tends to be at a very low state with kidnapping being almost out of existence in the city (Safe Around, 2017).

Crime in New York (USA)

New York City is prominently known for its innovativeness level across the world hosting a number of great landmarks. But despite this, behind the tall iconic building and landmarks, crime and other related activities are boiling up. As much as New York is known for the high violent criminal activities in the recent years the criminal activities have reduced. What is more is that the city can go for more than 24 hours without reporting in violent criminal activity in the city. All the same, theft is still rising across the city (The Guardian, 2016). No day used to pass by in the New York City without a violent crime being reported. But today a day can possibly pass by without a crime being reported on the news. In fact, this has happened not once, but twice within the same year. There were zero slashing, shooting or stabbing cases in a 24-hour span (Parascandola, 2013). Before this occurrence, the New York City used to have the most violent crimes record in the world with the day ending with at least a 3.6 average number of people being shot every day within the city (Parascandola, 2013). Today compared to 20 years ago New York City was at the topmost level of violent crimes without a day ending with at least six homicides (Hughes, 2012). The 1990s era in New York City was considered to be a murder capital of America (Greenberg & Stein, 2018). And today, New York City is the safest city in the world and the whole of U.S. According to statistics, New York City’s rate of crime per capita is very lower when compared to the nationwide average; a thing which is very unpopular and unheard of within any megacity across the globe. However, despite the fact that the violent crimes have significantly reduced, thus becoming rare and the city feeling much safer compared to the other big cities of the world, it still faces a number of threats which are rising from the city’s rough neighborhoods. Some criminal activities are highly reported in the city, including petty crimes in addition to other safety-related problems. Some neighborhoods within the New York City which are full criminal activities include Boerum Hill, Dumbo, & Brooklyn Heights having least cases and Midtown having the most cases; other neighborhoods include Flatiron, Downtown, and Brownsville among others (Greenberg & Stein, 2018). A number of the most dangerous neighborhoods tend to be the most popular as well as visited areas within the city. For example, the Midtown neighborhood tends to be the most influenced neighborhood in terms of criminal activities yet it receives the largest number of workers, foot traffic, and tourists, which can possibly attract the individuals who want to prey upon others. Muggers in the city tend to be in most places around the city positioning themselves within specific areas such as near the subway stations, for easy getaways (Greenberg & Stein, 2018).

Megacities have grown very fast becoming even difficult for the governments of the host nations to keep up to the pace of the required resources as well as infrastructure. Instability drivers can be clearly seen since they are already present and are growing every single day. The growth of cities comes with increased crime rates. Mumbai and Bangkok cities are still on their rise and therefore crime and other criminal activities would definitely be on the rise. Criminal and crime related activities tend to keep on rising every day in the mega cities. In Mumbai and Bangkok unlike in New York City, the prevalent crimes are rape-related. In Mumbai, this crime was never given enough emphasis for a considerable amount time thus attracting the name invincible due to the fact that the victims never reported the crimes walking away and remaining silent. New York City compared to the cities of Bangkok and Mumbai has a few numbers of slums and also seems to be less populated. What is more, India when compared to the cities of New York and Bangkok tends to have less mugging crimes. New York City when compared to the other cities, Bangkok in Thailand and Mumbai in India, New York tends to be saying goodbye to the violent crimes which it faced 20 years ago and in the 1990s era. Over the years, New York has been combating the criminal activities out of the streets and the neighborhoods thus achieving zero deaths as well as crime-related activities in a 24-hour span not once but twice. As violent crimes in New York City have been decreasing, those in Bangkok and Mumbai tend to be on the rise. Violent crimes and rape-related crimes tend to be high in Bangkok and Mumbai.
