War on crime all over the world depends on policies and pieces of evidence as presented by the decision makers and the criminals (Blowers, 2015) . It is usual for the right policies known to the citizens to be used in making decisions regarding engaging in criminal activities, but this is never the case in some instances. Sometimes, data may show that a specific policy is the most effective for deciding, but due to the decision makers, a less effective policy is put in place (Blowers, 2015) .

The parenting sector has seen several of these cases. Sidelina Zuniga, a 39-year-old had just gone to the grocery store and left her two sons-one 10 and the other 4 at home for an hour. Sidelina was arrested for neglect and later incarnated for 3 months (Swarns, 1997) . Another such case involved Madalyn Melendez, a 27-year-old mother who got arrested and sentenced for having sex in her cramped bedroom that she shared with her two young boys. She also didn’t have money so she made the children stay out of school for three months. In both cases, the data available in the records were not so serious, the best policy to be taken could have been to counsel the mothers and not arrest them (Swarns, 1997) . They could have been jailed just overnight for endangering the lives of their children while the children were taken into foster care. The government decision makers however resolved to the noneffective policy of giving them long-term jails.

According to different researchers on this topic, policymakers at times want to implement certain policies slowly or avoid them at all so that they be seen in the public eyes as strict, independent and trustworthy (Felbab-Brown, 2013) . Additionally, recent research results suggest that implementing the less effective policies by the government decision makers may be part of the governments trick to increase the citizen's confidence in the system hence gaining more corporation from the government in related cases (Felbab-Brown, 2013) .

In order to ensure that the government policymakers engage in using the correct data to make policy decisions, citizens should be involved (Regan, Colyvan, & Steele, 2007) . The voices and participation of citizens can make much difference when it comes to making some decisions. Additionally, more strict rules and guidelines should be put in place to ensure that a conviction that one gets aligns with the crime they did.
