Types of abuse and neglect in the case study include starvation, denial of medical care, and denial of association's rights. According to the article, the teenagers were so undernourished that one could not hint at their ages. They were locked out of the kitchen in a Philadelphia conurbation and were nurtured on an intake of peanut butter, mealtime cereal, and pancake batter. They had to eat insulations and wallboard to sate their hunger. Polgreen and Worth (2003) note that the boys had lies and their teeth were decomposing as they had not visited a dentist for the last five years. Apart from being locked in the house and not being allowed to leave, they were not taken for vacations like the girls. The most appropriate multidisciplinary approach to the boys' case should start at the individual level.

The first component will deal with the treatment of child victims. Here, therapy can be used to alleviate trauma, and physical treatments will be applied. The second will be family-oriented, aiming at changing the parents or the home environment. The idea is to change the perception of parents about their children. The third component is to ensure that the income and beneficial supplements of the family are stable. The last component is through the community. Here, community agencies will monitor and supervise children and decide whether they should be taken back to foster homes (Goldman, 2003).
