Fundamentally, critical thinking is a process used in examining data or information collected. In this paper, we shall look at an example of a hypothetical situation that requires the application of logic in critical thinking analysis. In this scenario, there is a man who has a PhD in political science, and whose occupation is a professor at a local college. His wife also works at the same local college and they have two children who study at the regional school system. Their family is popular among the members of the community. The man decides to run for political office.
On regard of the professor’s candidacy, voters could use logic critical-thinking in analyzing the situation and determine whether to elect him or not. Therefore, through analyzing the scenario critically, a series of questions emerge. The questions include of whether the professor’s credentials and experiences are sufficient for being elected in the political office. In addition, voters could question themselves whether the professor will be effective while in public office.

Following the questions that have come up, some of members of the community may believe that based on the professor’s life and job he may be able to perform well. Thus, they will vote for him. However, this type of information could be very much irrelevant (Sobecki, 2019). It is important that people learn of additional information such as whether the professor has ever held a public position, and whether he did a good job.
In the resolution of the situation, the voters could follow scientific steps to come up with a solution that is based on logic instead of assumptions. These steps include of problem definition, identification of available solutions and the selection of solution respectively (Sobecki, 2019). In the first step, the problem at hand constitutes of whether the professor will be able to manage the public office effectively. The possible solutions include of the whether there are other options and possibilities other than electing the professor. In selecting the solution, the voters should reason on what is influencing them in making the choice of choosing the professor. Further, they should determine whether what they know about professor is true or false and if true what important information could be missing (Sobecki, 2019). Once they come up with the relevant information and determine that professor is eligible for the position at public office, it would be best advisable that they elect him.
