Discuss the communication issue here and the effect of the issue on the employee.

There is a flaw in communication; Ted never curated his message correctly, which gave the employee room to re-adjust herself as per his/her understanding. Ted did not communicate effectively; he was not comprehensive enough. His failure to be as explicit as possible made him miss the deadline.

Discuss the communication issue here and how it might be improved in the future.

The communication issue here is failing to praise to motivate the employee. It is always right to motivate your employees and to commend them when they excel in carrying out their duties. It is not always wise to major on their wrongs while neglecting the good that they have done. This issue can be improved in the future by doing more to encourage employees than to discourage them.

Discuss the communication issue here. Discuss from the point of view of Samantha and Jeff

There are two communication issues here. First, Samantha's way of approach is wrong. She indicates that she is not courteous, nor is she respectful to her senior. Her approach is merely casual and provocative. She should have sought Jeff through a phone call, or better enough, she should have scheduled a meeting with him at his home or elsewhere to discuss the matter than to give it a casual approach. This may be the reason why Jeff responds coldly. However, it is not justifiable for Jeff to respond to Samantha's request arbitrarily, and with so much indifference, it shows that he is uncaring and irrational. He should have sought more time to decide than to give Samantha an emotional response.

Discuss the communication issue here. Discuss the point of view of Katie and the employees.

The communication issue here is a lack of respect for other peoples' views and ideas. Katie thinks that her ideas (her difficulties) are more important than those of the other four employees. Thus, the other employees feel dejected because their difficulties have been 'down-played." It is always important to respect other peoples' views; however much they may seem to be inferior.

Discuss the communication issue here. Discuss the point of view of the assistant. Discuss ways to fix this issue.

The communication issue here is intimidation in the workplace. Through Bill's comments and 'orders,' the assistant feels 'intimated' and unappreciated. Thus, work-environment becomes toxic and fearsome. When a boss bullies his employees to get things done, he/she may achieve high turnover rates, but he/she will lose the respect of his employees. This issue can be fixed by encouraging tolerance in the workplace.

Should you do this? Identify the ethical issues and/or conflicts. Make a decision and offer a brief rationale.

No. I should not get the intern to do the work. First, I was the one assigned the task, not the intern. Secondly, the intern may not do it as effectively as required. Third, the intern is not experienced enough, and guiding him will be preferable to assigning him tasks arbitrarily. It is not ethical to assign the intern work that was supposed to be done by some other party, perhaps to save on costs because the intern is not paid. I will decide to do the work by myself together with the intern to give him an opportunity to gain some good experience.

Has Monica shown active listening behavior? What non-verbal cues has she shown the employee about her level of interest? Discuss how you, the employee, feel after your meeting? Do you feel that your concerns were heard?

Monica did not show active listening skills. Her level of interest is very low. This is shown her by involvement with her phone and laptop while attending to me. After the meeting, I feel demoralized and low. The employee on the other hand may be feeling that she did not attend to me appropriately. In my view, my concerns were not properly addressed. How could you have handled this differently? What steps can you take to make things right? How do you think Max feels after your conversation? If you were Sasha how would you feel about this employee?

I could have explained to Max what had happened to me on the way, and perhaps request the boss for some time to relax. To make things right, I will first of all apologize to Max and to Sasha. Secondly, I will endeavor to culture my emotional reactions and self-control. If I were Sasha, I would have explained to the employee her mistakes, and requested him to work on his emotions instead of letting them rule him and cause unnecessary distraction in the workplace.

Discuss the communication issue(s) here. Discuss how this situation might be better handled in the future. Explain how Mia’s lack of concern for the other team members make them feel.

The communication issue here is failure to be transparent. Mia should have been more honest about getting late. In the future, the workers should be trained on the discipline of time-keeping, and should be advised to be more tolerant to others when they make mistakes. Mia’s lack of concern makes other workers feel that they have been wasted, and that their commitment and time was not valued.

What did you do during your practice presentation that was ineffective? If Samantha were the potential client, would she have hired your advertising firm based on your presentation? What should you change and do for the real presentation to make it more effective? How could Scott, as your director, help you improve? What could your other marketing team members do to help the situation?

Being monotone in the presentation is ineffective. It makes the presentation boring and less appealing. If Samantha were the potential client, she would not have hired our firm. To make the real presentation a success, I should make the presentation more appealing and more concise. Scott can help me improve by giving me advice. Other members of the marketing team can help in giving their views, observations, and recommendations.
