A genogram is an analytical assessment tool that can be used to get deeper detail entailing a family’s history to help diagnose a situation and a client. Its main aim is to know the client by understanding her social-cultural behaviour, from the characteristics exerted by her background and upbringing. The assessment of the family’s norms, the expectation of the families concerning different topics, the health condition backgrounds of various family members and their approaches to different situations goes a long way in helping achieve this (Hockenberry & Wilson, 2007). For this narrative, a genogram was formed after an interview was conducted during which the interviewer answered a couple of questions concerning various family views including her religious beliefs, origin, and general expectations based on gender. These factors help when analyzing the individual and trying to understand her.
While creating this narrative certain NOHS ethical standards were upheld whereby there was no sexual or romantic relationship between the client and I, the human service professional. There was acknowledgement of the culture spotted in the family. There was assurance of integrity and confidentiality on the information provided by the client. No gender based or race based or any kind of discrimination occured during this process. There is also encouragement of the clients good behavior as required by the NOHS ethical standards ( Barret, 2019 ).

This client comes from a family that contains a father, a mother and several children. Unbiasely assessing the social and religious characteristics of her family, it is seen that she comes from a religious family that also believes in the importance of tradition and cultural believes and upholds ethical behaviour. The religious upbringing helps her view a family as a unit that helps instil good values and morals in its members, while the traditional, and the cultural upbringing makes her recogonize her father, as the head of the family and their members should be united. These views ways of life and values taught by her family have not only taught her how to relate to other people, a value that she appreciates but have also enabled her to be selfless by not only considering her interests alone but those of other people too while taking action on any situation. I acknowledge the clients culture and the role it plays in society.
An assessment of her origin or her residence has shown that she grew up in Queens, New York. Despite growing up in the city, the client has learnt how to appreciate nature by taking care of the environment, which is a virtue also learned to be unbiased when it comes to age and therefore shows respect to both her elderly and young people. She is socially responsible as she is sensitive and pays attention to the needs of others around her. She willingly offers a helping hand in the event that anyone needs it. She also tries to do her best to help wherever she can. The virtues also help her when she interacts with the environment, and this helps her become very careful and cautious about environmental pollution. This behavior is admirable and commendable more steps can be taken to enable the client to continue this behavior as it is one of her strengths.
After research on her race or ethnicity, the symbols that represent her culture includes her and her family attending church every Sunday, putting family first and eating dinner every night with her family, this has developed in her the ability to show unity by sharing meals with the family, and let her learn to prioritise her family above everything else. This has helped grow a family bond with unity whereby the children are the centre of it. The impact this has helped her in developing social responsibility whereby she values children and stands on a strong belief that children should be protected at all cost by everyone in society. She also learns that children are the basic necessity for the continuity of society and are therefore a very important part of the community. In addition, she also points out that we should be readily available to help them because they sometimes go through difficult situations and experience problems that are above their capability and abilities. She strongly defends children and encourages that they are taken care of she also appreciates their role in the community. As a human service professional I acknowledge and respect the client’s belief on the importance of children in society.
The other assessment is made on expectation whereby the views family views on the roles and responsibilities and the expectations that are associated with each gender is taken into consideration. Some of the responsibilities included cooking, raising the children and maintaining the home. In her family, being a culture based family, females do all household chores, these include cleaning and cooking among others. The mother is also responsible for raising the children and educating them on the moral values required from them by the society. The females also show the most compassion in the family. This gender-based roles and responsibilities, that are culturally influenced, and which the client grew up with have helped her with all her roles as required by society and aided in taking responsibility for her duties. It has also led her to grow a compassionate heart. This is shown by her ability to assist children.
Family dynamics are patterns of interaction between family members. It helps explore the behaviour and difficulties experienced by members of a family and understand them. Some of the cultural influences in family dynamics that might influence my responsibilities are the gender allocation of roles in a family, the functioning of a family as a unit with the father being the leader and the children being the central unit, and the family’s value of putting its members first ( Barret, 2019 ).
The virtue that is shown by the client when displaying the virtue of putting family first will affect my responsibility positively as it is my responsibility as a human right professional to recognize and build on the client’s strength ( Barret, 2019 ).
The gender-based allocation of roles and responsibilities in a family is a culture-influenced dynamic that allocates different roles and responsibilities to different members of the families depending on the gender. This will affect my responsibility positively as I understand different cultures and respect each one of them (Barret, 2019) .
The functioning of the client’s family as a unit, whereby the father is the leader, and the children are centred on the family is a type of family interrelation. The cultural practice influences the dynamics of the family and affects my responsibilities positively. Learning the relationship between the family helps fulfil my responsibility to understand the individual’s family and their relation to each other.
