There are various cultural groups in the United States. The main basis for these cultural groups is their racial inclination. Therefore, the cultural groups include the whites, Native Americans, African Americans and the Hispanics. It also includes the Asian Americans. The majority of the United States population is composed of the whites who practice the western culture. These other cultural groups constitute the minority. The Caucasian cultural group originated from Germany, United Kingdom and Ireland. Being the majority of the population, this cultural group tends to dominate in most spheres of the United States such as politics and in the economy. The African Americans refers to the cultural group that has an African heritage. These came from South American countries and others came as slaves from Africa. They have for a long period suffered from racial discrimination which dates back to Jim Crow’s era. In the recent past there have been great strides in the involvement of this cultural group in the affairs of United States. An example is Barrack Obama, an African American who is a retired American president. However, this group faces various challenges such as poverty, lack of education and increased crime rates.
The Asian Americans also constitute a portion of the American cultural groups. It is a minority group too and tends to practice the Asian culture. The origin of this group includes India, Vietnam, Japan and China. The Hispanics, also called Latino Americans constitutes another important cultural group in the United States. These are a Spanish speaking population. They hail from countries such as Colombia, Cuba and Mexico. Finally, the Native Americans refer to Americans who originally resided in the western hemisphere. They practiced hunting and gathering as part of their culture. They also practiced ancient agricultural practices. They include the indigenous Indians. They faced various challenges such as eviction and death during the European conquest of the United States.
