Today, we are faced with many environmental issues that may threaten our existence. We are constantly reminded of such cases as global warming that is causing adverse effects on our lives (Ichikawa, 2004). World leaders are continually convening meetings to discuss the best solutions to solve these issues. In my discussion, I have chosen two environmental challenges, namely, deforestation and waste production.
Deforestation and waste production are part of the challenges facing our environment. Due to the ever-rising population, the demands for such populations have resulted in increased levels of deforestation (Anete, 2012). Many people are now cutting down trees intending to create space for dwelling. Consequently, the cutting down of trees has led to loss of habitat for wild species. In the process, they are placed at risk that may lead to their extinction. Besides, it is projected that deforestation produces 15 percent of the greenhouse gases in the world.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
In the case of waste production, research shows that the average person produces as much as 4.3 pounds of waste every day. The US alone is said to account for 220 million tons of waste per year (Zeng, 2015). Most of these wastes end up in landfills and produce massive amounts of methane in the process. Methane gas is hazardous as it poses explosion hazards. Also, it is considered to be one of the worst greenhouse gases due to its high potential for global warming.
To live more sustainably, I will need to come up with appropriate solutions to solve some of these environmental challenges. I will address deforestation by planting trees in my compound. I may also team up with my neighbors in establishing tree-planting projects. By doing this, I will have made an effort to reduce deforestation in my neighborhood. To reduce waste production, I will ensure that I use biodegradable materials. Such wastes will be easier to decompose and will not lead to the piling up of wastes.
