Design a public health intervention that meets a Healthy People 2020 objective. The intervention should cover a distinct topic and target a specific population in the community
A good diet enables proper functioning of our body systems and helps keep illness at bay. Good nutrition involves eating a balanced diet with the correct proportion of carbohydrates, lean proteins, and vegetables. A majority of youths do not practice healthy eating habits. They binge on an unhealthy diet because they are oblivious of the repercussions. A lifestyle disorder like diabetes will be the 7th leading cause of death by 2030 (Rathmann & Giani, 2004). This paper aims at enlightening the youths in the community on the importance of good nutrition and weight status.

Youths in the community are fond of junk and unhealthy foods. This could be as a result of lack of information on the benefits of healthy eating. Most of them prefer processed and canned foods, quick fixes, over vegetables and fruits. Sensitization should be made among the youths on the significance of good nutrition. This could involve introducing nutrition classes in schools and making them know that good nutrition will boost their immune systems. Vitamin C also known as ascorbic acid is popular for boosting immunity and helps in quick recovery from an injury. It also prevents common colds and flu. Vitamin C can only be found in fruits, vegetables, legumes and nuts (Guine, 2013).
Youths desire looking younger than their actual ages. This can only be possible if they fuel their bodies with the correct nutrients. Good nutrition delays the ageing process and leads to a better and happy lifestyle (Horwath & Van Staveren, 2002). It will also help a person maintain a healthy weight thus reducing the risk of lifestyle disorders like obesity, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. They should be encouraged to eat enough calories that their bodies can burn in a day. Consumption of whole grains and low fat milk will also go a long way to ensure that one benefits from good nutrition.
In conclusion, good nutrition and weight status are vital in achieving a healthy lifestyle. Youths should be encouraged to practice healthy eating to achieve a healthy society that is free of lifestyle disorders.
