There are several factors that come into play in determining health, including religion, genetics, race, individual behaviors, and beliefs, as well as diversity among others. In addition, according to several different studies, an association has been found to have a link between cultural and social factors and health, all the factors are generally referred to as health determinants. Health determinants include socioeconomic, spiritual, lifestyle, and other cultural factors.

Cultural factors may greatly determine the outcome of a patient in such a way that it can either have a great impact or an insignificant impact. All the determinants of healthcare relate to cultural factors, which tends to broadly define society and individuals in all different aspects. For instance, higher education attainment would mean that an individual is well informed and, therefore able to understand things fast. In addition, it would mean that there is enough income and, therefore good medical services. Spiritually, some religions have beliefs that restrict them from seeking medical attention, citing that healing would come from God (Rumun, 2014). Lifestyle also plays a major role in healthcare; for instance, a healthier lifestyle would indicate preventive healthcare services are highly utilized.

Considering our patient, despite vaginal discharge being a common thing, it would be important to consider testing for any conditions she might be having, most specifically sexually transmitted diseases and infections (STDs/STIs) would help determine the way forward (Johnson, 2008). Early detection of these categories conditions would help her be able to deliver safely without transmitting to her unborn baby. Conducting a test for STDs and STIs would be significant in determining if the patient is positive or negative for a sexually transmitted infection (Shah, 2014). Tylenol, which she is taking, is safe and as much as it may have risks to be concerned about, it is not harmful (Pregnancy Health, 2019). Diabetes may be a threat to her baby’s health, but with the correct direction her baby would be delivered well.

There are some questions that I would direct to the patient to be free with her. These questions would aim at ensuring that I would give the best and at the patients’ consent. The first question will be if she is okay to be served by me, just in case her culture is against men serving a pregnant lady. If she is okay, I will go on to question her of any other substance, or drug use other than the ones noted know (Tylenol and Diabetes drugs). I would question about her diet, what is the content? How frequently does she eat and the amount of water that she drinks every day? Furthermore, I would inquire about any other feeling she has of being unwell. And then finally I would ask if she has help at home doing things least she strains herself too much.
