Pediatric patients account for 30 to 35% of all emergency department visits globally. Besides, children have a unique distribution of complaints compared to adults and need separate clinical management (Britto et al., 2017). Apparently, the World Health Organization developed guidelines for caring for children with developmental concerns. The physical, emotional and intellectual capabilities of children grow remarkably between the age of 1and 13. At one, they utter a few recognizable words while at 10, they are able to write book reports and use computers. Good development is necessary for young children because it enables them to play well and live healthy, normal lives.

In my pediatric clinical rotation, I realized a number of aspects regarding developmental concerns in pediatrics. First, some children walk and talk late because of heredity from their parents. Apparently, most of the pediatrics follow example of their parents who took a significant amount of time to talk and walk while they were still young (Philips & Shonkoff, 2000). Second, children with developmental problems had little access to nutritious food. In this case, some parents were unaware of the fact that their children required proper nutrition for development purposes. Therefore, there was need for clinicians and other health care workers to educate parents, especially young mothers on the importance of feeding their young ones on nutritious meals to boost their development. Third, was the study of environmental factors that influence the development of pediatrics (Kufe et al., 2010). I realized that young children needed sufficient mental stimulation for faster development because children with little or no stimulation grew at a slower rate compared to their counterparts. Fourth, I realized that physical problems in children contributed to their development. For instance, deafness reduces language development.

From the above, all the health care providers in our health care facility had the obligation of pointing out pediatrics with developmental issues and training their mothers on the best practices they can employ to enhance good and quality development in their children ( Britto et al., 2017 ) .
