Men and women should receive equal pay when they carry out activities that need the application of similar skills and responsibilities. There is a difference in the salaries of women and men. Concerning my future career, women receive minimal wages and their population in the workforce is higher than that of men. Men get high salaries, but their population in the employment sector is low. The women are few in careers related to sociology. In the future, women will increase in the occupations related to sociology because they have enrolled in higher institutions. Men who get high wages dominate the prestigious careers. These careers have good salaries as compared to the less prestigious jobs. In the less prestigious occupations, the women are more than men and receive high salaries. The comparable worth of men and women is different because they do not receive equal pay in spite of occupying similar positions. The wages of men are high, but they have a low workforce ( Median Earnings by Sex , 2017) . According to Bell (2016), women can take the work that is outsourced to other countries to increase their wages. She claimed that women do not ask for high salaries as compared to men and foreign citizens. Bell (2016), attested that women have the same potential as men and foreign workers.

Section 2

The labor laws in the country do not cover for individuals who are lesbians and gays. The employers have a negative attitude towards individuals of the LGBT group. Some of the managers dismiss employees who are found to be lesbians and gays. The federal courts ruled that all employees should receive equal treatment. Further, the court ruled that discrimination that is based on sexual orientation is subject to violation of the employees’ civil rights ("Lambda Legal," n.d.). Employers should not base their employees’ assessment of sexual orientation because it does not determine their performance.

Section 3

Sexual segregation exists in the employment sector as a result of beliefs and practices that certain job positions are fit for men rather than women. For instance, the engineering, science, and medical fields are dominated by men. In the workplaces, women are separated from because the employers perceive that they cannot carry out complicated tasks or manage the activities in the company. The characteristics of women such as socialization lower their confidence to take courses that are related to engineering. Cultural practices influence sexual segregation in the workplaces. Some communities believe that women have a different potential than men which is perceived in organizations (Seron et al., 2016).

In accordance with the report carried out by Schieder and Gould (2016), women receive seventy-nine cents for every dollar that men are paid. The difference in the salaries is as a result of the gender bias. The men are believed to be the perfect employees and productive which gives them the advantage of receiving high wages ( The Simple Truth about the Gender Pay Gap , 2014).

In conclusion, the differences in gender pay due to social and cultural factors. Men receive higher wages as compared to women. Minor groups such as LGBT face discrimination in the workplace. All individuals should receive equal pay and treatment on the basis of their performance rather than their sexual orientation or identity.
