Managers are the organization employees who control other workers while undertaking various tasks. On the other hand, leaders develop ideas which people emulate and follow. The first difference between a manager and a leader is that the latter strives to maintain the status quo in an organization (Jackson, 2017) . A manager also ensures that other workers follow the set rules when undertaking their tasks. On the other hand, leaders bring change to an organization by innovating new ideas. Secondly, managers set goals for other workers while leaders formulate a vision that guides future operations in an organization. The former depends on the existing internal mechanisms to set objectives for other workers while a leader tries to think beyond other people’s capabilities and incorporates everyone into their visions (Sozzi, 2018) . The third difference between a manager and a leader is that the former uses authoritative means to ensure that a particular goal is achieved. On the other hand, a leader uses charismatic means to influence certain actions in an organization.
One of the biggest benefits of being a manager is that one can avoid a risk that could significantly cost an organization. The manager works within the set guidelines while trying to achieve particular objectives. However, the manager lacks creativity in formulating ideas that could ensure growth in an organization. The individual relies on other people’s ideas to set objectives for the organization. On the other hand, a leader makes long-term goal which will have a bigger impact on the overall performance in an organization (Johnson, 2018) . The individual does not have to rely on rewards to formulate goals but waits for the final results. One of the biggest disadvantages of being a leader is that one may face isolation due to having divergent ideas. A leader may go against other people’s beliefs when developing new ideas.
