The society we live in dictates the culture that we adopt. The culture, on the other hand, will dictate our moral values, virtues, and perceptions of the world. Consequently, our behavior and the way we live will affect almost every aspect of our lives. A critical aspect impacted by our culture is decision making. In the world today, there exist two predominant cultural contexts, a western cultural context and a non-western cultural context. In business, for instance, westernized managers tend to be different from non-westernized managers. Due to the difference in perceptions, philosophies, view on gender, religiosity and corporate ethical values there is a clear, distinctive factor between the two types of managers. This essay studies the differences between a Moroccan manager and a US manager.

A Moroccan manager apparently comes from a non-westernized cultural context while A US manager originates from a thoroughly westernized cultural context. Evidently, there exist significant geographical and cultural differences. According to studies the cultural environment of these managers plays a huge role in ethical issue recognition and ethical decision making. Since culture depends on environment and region, the geographical location of a Moroccan manager and a US manager are therefore vital in determining their differences in ethics. Morrocan managers come from the tropical Mediterranean where people have a particular same kind of culture. They have religions and a great belief in culture. In the US the culture is individualistic in that everyone focuses on what they think is right.

Regarding morality, there are two dimensions of personal moral philosophies, relativism, and idealism. Idealism is a person’s concern for others while relativism entails dictating moral principles basing on a situation at hand. Idealism promotes altruism while relativity judges what is good or bad depending on the situation and conditions at hand. Religiosity greatly influences these two philosophies. It is because in religion people preach about care and promote virtues that are somehow altruistic in nature. Religion dictates a code that people should follow in doing ‘good’ whatever the situation. In Morocco people value religion hence Moroccan managers tend to be idealistic as compared to US managers. Since in the US there is no much focus on religion, the managers are relativists. Religiousness promotes altruism which in turn promotes idealism.

Moral issues affect decision making. As a result, they influence the effectiveness of corporate commitment to ethics. Corporate ethic entails values that dictate the right thing to do, what one ought to do and what is worth doing in a business situation for the sake of improving or promoting a business. Thus corporate ethics and moral behavior are related. A Moroccan manager will have more corporate ethical values than a US manager. This is because corporate ethical values are positively related to idealism a factor which US managers lack.

A contemporary issue in ethics is also the role of women in business. Recently there has been an increase in women involvement in business. Male and female managers have different ethical perceptions. Apparently, women are more sensitive to ethical issues than men. Consequently, female managers have more ethical intentions than men. Patently, in Morocco, there are fewer women involved in business than men. In the US a significant number of women are involved in business. In Morocco, women are rarely in the managerial position while in The US there are a substantial number of women in Managerial position. As a result, most of US managers are sensitive to ethical issues while in Morocco most managers may not be sensitive to ethical issues.

In conclusion, idealism is a good predictor of ethical intentions than relativists. Moroccan managers are far better when it comes to behaviors and moral intentions. Much of this is attributed to religiosity which fosters a cooperative culture. The US managers, on the other hand, are relativists who put less focus on religion when it comes to women. Nevertheless, the US is better in women involvement in business in response to their behavior and ethical intentions. However, the judgment in corporate environment and behavior may be controversial.
