The article commits a fallacious appeal to authority. Someone can commit this fallacy by relying on the wrong people are a source of authority or a source that is not authoritative. For instance, while news presenters might appear to inform on investment, they are not as they might not have the necessary training. The article might also refer to a statement of fact that is not cited. In this article, the author relies on certain statements of facts to make the argument stronger.

The first statement is that “With the pressures many people are facing in the country, it is a time to take the mental health of students seriously.” The idea is that there is a kind of an outbreak in overwhelming stress in the country. However, the author makes no citation of a study that found that stress levels in the country have reached crisis level. The authority the article is appealing to do, not exist.

The second statement is “students lack real-world experiences and are therefore likely to succumb to mental health issues, emanating from academic overwork, and fatigue.” The question in this case is whether it is true that students lack the right experience to fight off mental illness. If there is a study that shows a correlation between a certain level of experience, and the ability to handle mental illness, the author has not cited it within the body of the article. In another statement, the author claims, “Unfortunately, the students faced with stress-related problems do not seek professional help from the resources their institutions offer thus making it to generate into serious mental complications.” The claim implies that no students facing stressful situations seek professional help but that is unlikely to be the case.

In conclusion, it is clear that the article makes fallacious appeal to the authority. The article makes a claim and presents it as a trusted information from an authoritative source such as a peer reviewed journal. In doing so, the article is fallacious to the extent it relies on nonexistent or shaky authority.
