Culture refers to a group of people sharing common behavior and experiences that tend to shape how its members understand the world. I consider culture as a way of life for groups of people. It includes groups that individuals are born into, for example, nationality, race, gender, or religion. On the other hand, it can also include groups that individuals join. For example, when one moves into a new region, there is a possibility of acquiring new culture by a change in the economic status.
Culture is an essential aspect of the world in people's lives since it determines their values, views, aspirations, loyalties, and fears. It includes both individual and social benefits. Individuals participating in culture may have developed thinking skills that induce creativity, thus improving their learning skills. A good example is children who participate in art activities in schools are three times more likely to pursue a degree in arts than those who don’t (CTB, 2020). Culture is also seen as beneficial in the health sector since creativity and cultural engagement have improved both mental and physical health. According to CTB (2020), arts improve the well-being and health of older people. Culture also helps in holding communities together. When people come together, social inclusion is fostered, and there is improved community empowerment. Finally, culture is of economic benefit since it positively contributes to tourism.

Having a better understanding of culture can benefit the United States as it can help overcome racial and ethnic divisions. Ethnic and racial division is a source of concern in the United States as it causes misunderstandings, loss of opportunities, and often leads to violence. With a proper understanding of culture, people can learn to tolerate each other. Tolerance among US citizens would enable people from different backgrounds and cultures to work together in business, research, and other areas, which would promote economic growth and equal opportunities, enhancing people's quality of life and their well-being.
