Abstract 

Disparities in the healthcare industry is an issue that influences the provision of quality care to all patients. The organizations engaging in the provision of healthcare services capitalize on measures to disparities and focus on the provision of quality care to all patients regardless of any diversities. In that case, managers engage in the development of the strategic planning process to evaluate the ability of the organization to deal with the issue based on factors such as the mission of the organization, the external and internal assessment, and the competitive position. The report will focus on the analysis of different stages in the strategic planning model focusing on the case of Disparities in Care at Southern Regional Health System.

Disparities in Care at Southern Regional Health System

Introduction 

The issue of inequalities in the healthcare system is a crucial aspect that attracts national attention to engage in measures that helps in dealing with the problem and provide a platform to overcome diversity issues. Based on the case of disparities in care at the Southern Regional Health System, it is essential to capitalize on the strategic planning process to identify measures that would be relevant to overcome the issue. Considering that the Southern Regional Health System is based on a region that experiences high disparities in employment rates, it is necessary to analyse the care services within the organization in a bid to deal with disparity issues. To overcome the problem of disparities, it is essential to focus on the analysis of different stages of the strategic planning model in a bid to understand the position of the healthcare organization on matters concerning the issue of disparities (Olden, 2015).

First Stage 

The first stage of the strategic planning model involves environmental assessment, which consists in understanding the current situation of an organization focusing on the internal and external aspects that concern the organization. In the analysis, it is essential to focus on the mission of the organization, which in this case involves the provision of quality care to all people in the society despite their diversities (Gathers, 2003 ). Secondly, the evaluation of the competitive abilities of the organization provides insights into the position of the organization in aspects that concern is dealing with disparities during the provision of care to the patients. The external evaluation of the health system involves understanding factors such as technology implemented during the rule of care, the population, and economic trends within the region (Fiscella, Franks, Gold, & Clancy, 2000). Based on the evaluations, the organization faces challenges when dealing with disparities considering that there are cases that indicate the inabilities to provide quality care to all people.

Second Stage 

The second stage in the strategic planning involves strategy formulation, which is an aspect that helps in defining the direction of an organization based on a given issue (Betancourt, Green, Carrillo, & Park, 2005). In the case of the Southern Regional Health System, the organization is essential considering that it will help in engaging in strategies to achieve set goals and objectives. The strategy formulation in this case involves defining measures that would help in the processes of dealing with disparities in the provision of healthcare services in a society that faces a wide range of issues including racism and poverty. The development of the strategies and objectives concerning the issue provide a direction on where the organization should be and the achievements that are ought to be made concerning the aspect of disparities in healthcare. The organization should be in a position to provide equal care to all the patients despite their cultural or racial elements.

In conclusion, disparities in the healthcare industry is an issue that influence the provision of quality care to all patients. In that case, it is necessary to focus on engaging in strategic management to develop approaches that would help to understand the position of the organization on dealing with the issue.
