There are a lot of debates revolving around capital punishment, as several opinions differ on this topic in different parts of the world. Most of the countries have eliminated the death penalty, but there are some nations that capital punishment is still used to date. According to the class discussions, they are all against the death penalty. Capital punishment has been used for many years as a means of punishing the guilty offenders. The key objective of capital punishment is to decrease the level of abhorrent crimes that always happen around the world. It has cost the system a lot of millions in the execution process (“death penalty | Law essays Free Student Essay Examples,” 2019). Therefore, the death penalty is not the most actual method of reducing crimes in the country. There are a lot of justice options to fight crimes in society, but the death penalty is not one of them. Capital punishment should be used to stop people from killing themselves, but it does not align with this aspect. According to the Death Penalty Information Centre for the topmost academic criminological societies, 89% of security and criminal experts rejected the opinion that the death penalty should be restrictive to murder (Parks, 2010). Before any crime occurs, it always begins with an argument that has gone wrong, and one person ends up saying, “I think I will kill you today.” It ought to be noted that capital punishment goes against the bill of human rights. In 1949, the United Nations drafted a law that protects human rights, and it states: No one shall be endangered to cruel or humiliating punishment (“Essay against death penalty,” 2019). Therefore, this is proof that the death penalty is a ruthless punishment and is the most heartless to human beings. According to the Ten Commandments, it states: do not kill, but the justice system is doing the same, making the death penalty a cruel act because human life is taken away. Many states in the USA have begun scrapping out the use of the death penalty or capital punishment by considering several human methods of execution. In the first place, many prisoners serve in jail for the crimes they did not commit, and some were set up. The justice system of the United States assures its people that lives will be saved through the death penalty while there is little evidence to show that capital punishment saves a life (Fridell, 2003). Taking the life of a person who has committed murder is never going to bring back the victim who was killed in the first place. When the prisoner is in jail, the family of the victim tends to heal much faster than when the prisoner is dead.
There is no end to crimes that occur in a country when the legal system is totaling murder on top of another death. The cycle tends to go, and there is no stop to manslaughter. The justice and legal system should face reality and come up with another way that works rather than capital punishment (Marwala, 2014). When someone or a criminal carries out the murder, it becomes the lowest form of crime to be committed, and when the justice and the legal system do the same murder, the system is praised, and even it gets a fancier name. In my opinion, the justice system is very wrong when it comes to capital punishment, given that the cost of execution is much more expensive than life imprisonment without getting any bail. In conclusion, capital punishment should be plunged from the legal system, and individuals should see that it is ethically wrong to kill (“Capital Punishment,” n.d.). Consciousness should tell the legal system that the death penalty does not work because it is a slow and costly execution process. Therefore, individuals should focus on how to prevent and stop impending crimes.
