Douglas Park, named after Senator Stephen A. Douglas of the United States, is located at the west side of Chicago, Illinois. The park is operated by the Chicago Park District and, covers an area of 173acres. On November 4, 1869, the Southern-most Park was named in honor of Stephen A. Douglas –who was a senator of the United States and assisted in bringing the Illinois Central Railroad to Chicago- by the commissioners. Since the park was built, it has served as a central location for recreational activities. It currently has soccer fields, basketball courts, swimming pool, five playgrounds, a miniature golf course, and an oval running track. It has also retained its original lagoon, a variety of trees and the original bridge designed by Jenney. The greenhouse which used to be an attraction site for many visitors was destroyed in 1905 and Czech Patriot statue, Karel Havlicek Borovsky by Joseph Strachovsky, was moved to a museum in 1981. From the year 2015, the park became a new home for the Riot Fest.

It is an amazing experience to go to Douglas Park. It is great and has a large area which is excellent to hold community programs and events. It is a beautiful park, and many activities can be seen such as happy families' outings, group activities and also great cookouts. The park was spacious, and it was refreshing to walk around the enormous trees. I also enjoyed the free parking and the view of the flower garden and the old architectures. Besides the muddy puddles and the cold weather, I enjoyed my experience at the park. The parks are worthwhile to the community. It is helpful and provides an environment where people can rest, enjoy and have a fun day. It brings the community together through the activities it houses such as the Riot Fest and the various game activities.

It also provides children playgrounds which are very important for children development. Parks are of great importance to the community and the country. According to me, parks are a significant part of society. Parks means a lot to me because they are environments set aside so that people can have fun and enjoy themselves during their leisure times. Parks contributes to togetherness and happiness of the society since people come together for the different festivals, for the various games and also interact among themselves. Parks are what people need for the country`s development. Parks help people avoid idleness mostly children. This is why I view the park as an essential part of society.

During the time I was cleaning up the park picking up litters from the park, I observed various reactions from the people in the park. From my experience in the park, I noted that the park really needed cleaning. Some people were supportive as they helped pick up the litters and even commented on my effort to clean the park. Some people were ignorant. I saw some of the people litter mostly the snacks wraps and drinking bottles. They did not recognize my effort and also ignored the litters. Many of the individuals passed by litter without taking any action of picking it or throwing away into the litter bins. Also, some were curious and asked why I took the cation of cleaning, I did explain the importance of cleaning the park how it is crucial to avoid littering, and they took an act of helping collect the litters. In general, people reactions were diverse, some saw the importance of cleaning up the park and helped while others ignored and even contributed to littering.
