Dutchman and the Slave by LeRoi Jones is an beautifully composed novel dwelling majorly on race relations and conflicts. The story fits the typical prototype of the adult and children related contents since race affects everybody regardless of age. Focusing on this novel in class and the entire major has contributed to the reflection of a racist society where the color of the skin is the determinant factor of human existence. As I was reading the book, I observed that the novel has two plays specifically the Dutchman and the slave. Explanation of every play succinctly describes an excellently written story. I further noted that Lula and Clay are two different characters from two various races. Lula is white while Clay is black leading to an explanation of the racial conflict. Lula fails to seduce Clay sexually thereby reverting to abuses and emotional provocations 1 .

Reading through the novel, I encountered Grace and Easly, who were undergoing intense frustrations due to the prevalence of the riots by the black movements. Walker, the leader of the movement, is the Grace Ex-husband 2 . The situation explains the racial conflict where African Americans have no right to marry the white and when the marriage takes place divorce and abuse take center stage. The book is unambiguous since the author separates them to provide a clear explanation of the extent of race and the racial conflicts in the society. Despite the race and racial conflicts explained in the novel, characters sometimes feel obliged to prevent the racial divisions in society but the societal norms define their stance on this racial aspect. The play, therefore, formed a perfect text in this class.
