Chapter 2 response
Indeed, Augustine provided significant advice with regards to best teaching practices that include ensuring they teach in a manner that caters for every student's needs and developing a suitable environment for teaching and learning. I also agree that it is the teachers' duty to motivate their students and enhance their learning within a learning environment regardless of their cultural or geographical backgrounds. Teaching through the lenses of the different cultural experiences enhances cultural diversity and inclusivity and minimizes discrimination leading to the development of an effective learning environment. However, culture and geographical background is not the only issue of diversity within contemporary classrooms. There are gender diversities, physical, social, economic as well as sexual diversities which are significant issues in today's society and need to be accounted for as well. According to Fores (2018), incorporating gender diversity in teaching practices provides a non-discriminatory and supportive learning environment for students of all gender orientations. Replicating this diversity for all the other types of diversities including physical and social diversity is equally important for an ultimate healthy learning environment for everyone.
Chapter 3 Response
Epistemology is indeed the theory of knowledge and encompasses the methods of its acquisition, its scope of operation, and its validity. It can be loosely defined as the baseline of understanding knowledge. An individual's perspective is based on previously acquired knowledge and experiences (Stanford, 2005). As such it is expected to be relative to the scholars' position and past experiences. Epistemological knowledge such as Thomas Aquinas's epistemology which is built on metaphysics and scientific facts and development as the source of knowledge is therefore significantly different from biblical doctrines based on the premise of creation that is advanced by the Bible. While the creation theory cannot be entirely and certainly dismissed as an epistemological stance for theologians, it cannot be entirely approved with certainty either. This is the same for science and scientific knowledge for which Thomas Aquinas's epistemology is based. The origin of the universe and all life is not entirely and undoubtedly explained by the evolution theory.
