Technological advancements in the world have led to the establishment of various disciplines in the field of communication. The term Information processing emerged recently due to the increased usage of digital technology in the area of communication. Broadly, Information processing refers to the act of manipulating one’s digitized information by the use of computers as well as other digital equipment known using information technology (IT). Systems that aid in information processing includes computers, networks, business software, mainframes among others. Cognitive informatics, on the other hand, denotes a multidisciplinary inquiry on the brain’s internal information processing methods and processes. Every person has a unique way of processing information, which gives people their uniqueness. The interdisciplinary domain comprises of knowledge and cognitive sciences. Overall, this study seeks to analyze the effects of cognitive behavior on informatics.

Noteworthy, cognitive informatics comprises of cognitive as well as information sciences that majorly focus on human information processing within the confines of computing and computer applications. Human factors denote the accommodation and systematic assessment of social elements in the now popular man-machine interface (University of Maiduguri Faculty of Science, n.d.). Ideally, human beings process information differently depending on their previous experiences. Experiences in life determine how individuals respond to stimuli considering behavior arises from a person’s interaction with the external environment. The desire for efficiency and effectiveness in carrying out certain operations have made digital systems part of human life. Digital devices have acquired extensive uses ranging from business environments to academics where learners access content through their digital devices. It is worth noting that the digital world changes so rapidly prompting individuals also to change to cope with their environment. Tools that process data have become common among people even as they continue to evolve by acquiring the very latest innovations. Besides, information processing has become easy using specific software much to the advantage of the user.

Cognitive informatics focuses primarily on human cognition and the design of interventional solutions. The human mind is a complex structure that works flawlessly in executing several commands as well as demonstrating immense control of several tasks simultaneously. Informatics seeks to create a system that works similarly, and the computer is an excellent example of such simulation. Clinical practice is an essential resource in the field of informatics as the area seeks to predict people behaviors in the workplace (Patel, & Kannampallil, 2015). Predictability of action is essential in designing interventional measures to deal with the practices at the workplace and at the same time apply the same concept to informatics and computer systems. Informatics focuses on creating a specific pattern of working within the system and the prediction of certain commands by the system to resolve the problem. Just as the behavior of people at the workplace can be predicted and dealt with effectively, informatics employs this knowledge in computer systems. Besides, clinical practice benefits from the development of computer systems and engineering of computer solutions with data from clinical experience used to improve the delivery of healthcare to the people. In this way, there is a mutual benefit between the practice of cognitive informatics and the subject from which it draws the information.

Cognitive science also draws heavily from various disciplines such as philosophy, anthropology, linguistics, and computer science to understand human behavior. The activities include reasoning, decision making, and ability to solve problems. Cognitive science, therefore, acts as a link between health information technology and cognitive research (Patel, & Kannampallil, 2015). Health information technology supports the management of healthcare in the health sector by informing on the different players and the various aspects that affect the healthcare system. Informatics, in this regard cognitive research, relies solely on the health information systems to access data with which it can work with to provide the best research outcomes based on the data that is available through the information system. Indeed, data that is organized in a proper systematic way is essential in making conclusions about the specific healthcare problem researched and providing clear intervention measures. Cognitive informatics, therefore, brings together the two disciplines and makes sure that data from the health information systems are used effectively through cognitive research.

Cognitive research also plays a vital role in streamlining healthcare information systems in the clinical setting. Health information technology is majorly used to improve the care given to the different sets of patients, especially those vulnerable such as care for the old patients. With the age of cognitive research, healthcare systems have to develop to match the demands for cognitive research (Pawar et al., 2017). The research outcomes of cognitive informatics further inform on the way the health information system can be improved by pointing out inadequacies and areas of improvement. Cognitive research provides insight into how the health information systems are to be acquired and the treatment of patients using the best methods available thus improving healthcare in general. An evidence-based approach to healthcare and the necessary support needed through proper information is valuable to healthcare.

Cognitive research emanated from the principals of the mental process. In the same vein, computer developers tinker with the workings of the mind in developing computer systems. Mental processes refer to the activities one can perform with their mind such as the ability to perceive, to think, have a memory, and make a proper judgment (Shapiro, & Laliotis, 2011). Cognitive research, therefore, deals with the analysis of these processes and determines how they work together in harmony to execute difficult commands. Informatics, thus, comes into play as it decides how these processes are related and how they join together seamlessly to provide the normal functioning of the body. The mental information process is essential to computer technology as they try to make replicas of the same. A mental process such as comprehension and inference are studied and better approaches provided.

The relationship between cognitive behavior and informatics can be seen through psychology literature, which posits that highly strenuous activities derail the cognitive processes and thus work to reduce the efficiency of processing information. In the same way, the emotions of people said to be under a demanding load during simulation practice may negatively interfere with the transfer of knowledge (Xiong, & Procyor, 2018). In the same way, computer systems strain under pressure of instructions, and thus their capacity must be improved to improve efficiency. Efficiency in the cognitive domain also has to be enhanced through training and constant learning to manipulate the mind to work under strenuous conditions thereby increasing its capacity. Mental processes, therefore, provide critical information to informatics and computer system analysts, and in return, the same information is applied to improve the mental processes and the capacity to work better and efficiently, especially when dealing with demanding mental processes.

In conclusion, cognitive behavior influences informatics significantly as the mental process connects with the development of computers and artificial intelligence. Informatics, therefore, draws heavily from the working of the mind. It is without a doubt that computer processes are designed based on the blueprint of the workings of the brain. The benefit of such an endeavor is the use of this information to influence the operation of the mind such as producing the behaviors of the people at work and designing intervention measures. More so, health information systems are dependent on cognitive science to improve healthcare. Without a doubt, cognitive behavior significantly influences informatics.
