The adoption of EHR in the medical field has been greatly advocated. The implementation of EHR has been associated with improved efficiency and quality of services thereby improving the overall quality of health care delivery. EHR benefits the nurses through improved communication, efficient documentation and ease of access of information thereby improving the nursing process. The EHR does not hinder nursing theory but rather enhances the concepts of the theory. 

The nursing theory comprises of concepts, definition and assumptions that assist nurses to describe explain and predict phenomena. These theories form the basis of practice for the nursing professional. The elements of the nursing theory include easy communication, documentation of procedures, and better patient outcome. EHR increases access to patient information such as lab results and charts which are very crucial in the nursing practice. Access to information equates to timely decision making thereby improving quality of services rendered to the patients. Effective communication is very crucial in the nursing professional. EHR enhances effective communication among the medical practitioners (Kossman & Scheidenhelm, 2008) .

Documentation is an important aspect of the nursing theory. EHR enhances efficiency through quicker documentation and information retrieval thereby promoting the nursing process. The nurses can retrieve the information they need for crucial processes such as medication and reports. EHR has been identified to improve tasks organization. Organization plays a key role in improving the nursing process as the nurse can work in a systematic manner without forgetting some of the important tasks. For example organized charts eliminate the errors such as wrong medication (Kossman & Scheidenhelm, 2008) . 

In conclusion, electronic health records do not hinder the nursing theory but would enhance the concepts in the theory. Training and implementing the information systems that meet the clinical needs in the nursing professional would improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the care delivery.
