Pornography is defined as a representation of sexual behavior in various electronic and visual materials such as statues, pictures, books and videos with an intention to cause sexual excitement. Pornography has devastating effects on the mind of any individual. Studies have shown that it has the ability to distort perceptions and attitudes on the nature of sexual intercourse one has to have. People who routinely watch pornography are considered to develop high tolerance for abnormal and unusual sexual behaviors, promiscuity, sexual aggression and even rape. It can therefore destroy one’s values, and can influence and eventually replace the behaviors of a person in their mind without them consciously noticing it. A human mind has the ability to quickly dissect, translate and make sense of what is being entered into their mind.

Pornography has an effect of programming the minds of individuals so as their lower their sexual standards and will often make people seek sex and develop an unhealthy sex with people willing to play sex without consciousness. This clearly points out to a high degree of indiscipline, since no disciplined person can be readily available to have sex with anybody. This loss of control over an individual’s sexual life can easily promote other vices such as rape.

Pornography would therefore promote gender-based violence and especially against women. Too much exposure to pornographic content has proven a higher likelihood of aggression in men towards women (Wright et al., 2016). This heightened aggressive behavior towards women will often lead to increased sexual violence, even though studies indicate that not all men with higher levels of aggression would commit acts of sexual violence against women. However, the fact that aggression in men would often lead to an increase in sexual violence against women is evidence enough of the devastating effects of watching too much pornography by men, as this in the long run helps promote violence against women.

Pornographic content by both men and women will usually lead to changes in their expectations from each other. This often leads to violent demands from especially men towards the women, as a preference indicator of what they have previously seen in the pornographic materials before. This affects even women as they would want to strike a balance between what they see in the pornographic materials and what they expect of themselves (Zillman, 20129). As this particular behavior continues, it leads to a more undignified and brutal relationships between the men and the women. The hopes and expectations they develop overtime will continue even up to their marriage life and in more occasions will lead to rape.

Pornographic materials when watched overtime will lead to addiction. Addiction especially in women can be devastating to them and would usually lead to themselves promoting sexual violence against their own bodies. Most people have had a false notion that pornographic addiction is always a men’s issue. Most women struggle in silence with a lot of pornographic addiction since they find no safe spaces to discuss about their pornographic addictions. These women will want to respond to some particular stimulation and such behavior with time finds its way into their marriage life. They would want to reciprocate what they watch from the pornographic materials and copy the same into their life. That will condition them to accommodate domination, disrespect, pain and abuse. This will give men a window to do what they want to do in them, as most women will have consented to their own abuse which is as a result of their too much addiction in pornographic materials. When pornography becomes a core facet of which a wife or woman is, her identity turns to be pornography and would make it quite traumatizing, devastating and even confusing for them as they continue to perpetuate violence against themselves.
