From Chapter 16, briefly define the ideas on modernization of Tonnies, Durkeim, Weber, and Marx and provide an example from the film that could represent each theoretical construct.
Every aspect of human life is modernized enslaving individuals to technology. An example is communication where individuals use cell phones to text rather than have a face-to-face kind of communication. Besides, technology has affected the physical health of individuals, and it can be seen by taking a look at the chubby passengers in the movie meaning they are overweight (Danaher. 2019). However, there are positive effects too when the robot works alongside humans to revive the earth which means, technology can be used well to benefit the ecosystem as well.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
According to the attached technology and environment handout; what are the four ways that technology reshapes a society? Define each and provide examples of technological advances featured in the film that fit each of the four ways? How did each advance change the society? Your examples from the film should be specific.
Wall E as a movie describes many incidences brought about by embracing technology which are in our current times. An example is when the robot does everything for passengers from performing oral hygiene to feeding them. Individuals can, therefore, be termed as lazy from machine and equipment use which makes them reluctant to performing minute tasks. Nature also, and human beings have been separated by the use of technology hence losing their animalistic nature. Wall-E was the only robot which remained on earth to clean the environment. It is only through the technology that people were able to survive in the space. This helped them to escape the dirt from the earth.
Define the four social revolutions that have occurred (section 2.3 chapter 2). Which, if any, of these are presented in the film? Come up with a name and description of a fifth social revolution based on the circumstances in the film.
People have been influenced by technology in different ways on how they are supposed to relate. Usually, people sitting next to each other can converse verbally but this is not the case in the movie as seen when two guys chat on the screen, but in the real sense, they are close. The act can be compared to current times where people text each other in the same venue instead of having a face-to-face conversation thus technology is said to have changed how people relate hence creating a gap between relationships (Leslie. 2018). Another change can be seen where people spend most of the time in front of the screens as seen in the movie rather than meeting family and friends and if they are attending, most of the time may not be used for them to interact but stare on the screens hence a change in social life.
Discuss how people are socialized in the film? What impact has the type of socialization had on human interaction? Provide support for your answer with specific examples from the film.
The aspect of socialization has been show how Wall E met with Eve on his way back to earth. A group of 700 people who vacated earth re -appears. These people want to take Eve back. Wall E protects Eve because he has developed a feeling towards her.
Discuss the impact humans had on the planet environment using as many terms from your text as possible (i.e., acid rain, global warming, etc.). Provide examples from the movie to support your answer. There will not be specific mention of these things so just use your sociological imagination to apply the concepts
There are many environmental effects because of human negligence as per the Wall E movie. There are waste remains in former human resident areas meaning ecological problems such as pollution and large waste deposits which are not pleasing to the eyes are generated by people when living in certain regions. Global warming due to polltion leads to adverse climatic change cannot be secluded as seen in the movie (Danaher. 2019). However, the film gives a ray of hope to viewers that the issues can be resolved especially when Wall E starts to help in clearing the waste left and together with Eve, they find a different type of plant. The plant found means that all is not lost since the nature of the environment can be revived to being green as in the past.
