Fruitful execution of Electronic Health Information Technology requires the involvement of all stakeholders particularly the nurses. Throughout all the stages of installing electronic health records, utilization of healthcare workers cannot be ignored. During the planning stage, nurses are crucial in informing the process of collecting health data, storing it and processing it. The nurses inform the development of the electronic health records. They inform the developers of the challenges that can be expected during the implementation. Nurses are with the patients most of the time as opposed to physicians, so they are equipped with knowledge on the health records.

During the adaptation period, it is important to train the nurses. The nurses will, in turn, help the other healthcare workers to implement the electronic health records in hospitals. The installation is easier when nurses and other healthcare workers are trained and involved throughout the process. Focusing on the nurses is important as they are mostly the first contact a patient has before seeing a physician as such data collection begins with them. Time is saved, and with a focus on the nurses, the use of electronic health records is expected to have higher adoption and utilization rates (Anders, n.d). Nurses at this stage help with ensuring a workflow and preparation of schedules for all healthcare workers in every department. During an evaluation, the nurses are crucial in airing the challenges encountered and give suggestions on how they can be addressed.

Nurses introduce a new perspective on the implementation of electronic health records. They influence the attitudes of other healthcare workers, hence affecting the uptake of healthcare records (McCarthy, 2014). It is crucial that the management focuses on nurses and understands why they would embrace the electronic health records and exploit the opportunities. When the nurse is involved in the transition, they become instrumental in transitioning to electronic records.
