In the options of a book, a building or a plant, it is only a plant that can be considered to have its own good as well as take into consideration its own interest. It is important to note that a plant takes advantage and uses phototropism in order to bend for more sunlight that is important in its growth (Shields, 2016). The collected sunlight is for its own interest since it is important in making its own food through the photosynthesis process.
It is as well important to consider that there is no intrinsic value in a building or a book. These are basic tools that can only have instrumental value. It is the human interaction that creates the value of buildings or books. However, there is an intrinsic value in plants in the sense that they are living things that must not have human interaction to increase their value. More importantly, plants form a bigger ecosystem and cannot be taken out of the equation without harming other living things such as animals and humans that use it for food, medicine and other benefits (Zimmerman, 2015). It is, therefore a deontological and the moral obligation of human beings to ensure that plants are well protected, and find better ways of preventing their destruction to avoid hurting both humans and animals that either way relies on the plants. There must be an ethical relationship between human beings and plants based on the fact that they all depend on one another for their survival.
