Introduction

Making of decisions is a crucial part of any business or undertaking because the impact they have on future developments are highly significant. The following paper discusses the ethical scenario of Eric that is an assistant of the Vice President at a marine manufacturing plant. Eric, accidentally discovers an email from his boss to the president informing him of an internal study in regards to paint leeches from the boats into the environment of the marine.

The Vice President was right and within the confines of ethics to inform the president about the paint leech on the marine environment but the president made a wrong decision. The authorities related to the marine paint manufacturing plant would further find themselves in key legal problems if they proceed to conceal the information concerning the leeching paint after the study discovered the situation on the boats and their adverse effects on the marine environment. It is both legally wrong and unethical.

Organization of Authority in the Scenario

All countries in the world have organizations that manage the requirement of compliance over the companies of businesses. The organizations help in establishing a control and form of regulation to the behaviour, compliance and adherence to the rules set by law and further help the industry in pursuing their objectives. Environmental protective agencies are the key federal agencies that are responsible for governing regulatory measures in companies in the United States.

Other agencies exist in regards to the same issue and such include the department of interior, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Occupational Health and Safety (OSHA) together with many others (Laws & Regulations, 2017). Such agencies direct and monitor aquaculture reporting the ventures to states that fail to comply with the set rules.

The Preferred Organization in the Scenario

The most suitable organization in the scenario above is the Occupational Health and Safety (OSHA) that is an administrative agency responsible for regulating the compliance of the paint manufacturing plant in the marine environment. OSHA was set up as a health agency in the national arena in the year 1970 by Congress and had the primary function of ensuring that no single worker loses their job or life in their duty (Richards, 2000). The organization was established to ensure safe and healthy conditions for people in the working sector because it sets and enforces standards.

Ethical Issues

The following case scenario has many ethical issues involved. Eric is an assistant Vice President at a Marine Paint Manufacturing Plant that accidentally notices an email conversation between the vice and president of the company. Eric discovers the information carries dangerous content that is crucial to the marine life the company is involved with. The president does not only put himself but also the vice president in a bad place by engaging in unethical deeds. Eric gets confused on whether to reach out to the relevant authorities as he fears losing his job.

My Belief

I am of the belief that Eric needs to contact and tell OSHA what he has found out regarding the marine plant and its leeches and how adverse the leeching is to marine life. Eric must inform OSHA about the danger the company poses to the marine life in the area. In addition, Eric needs to consult a lawyer to be on the safe side in a bid to protect any prospect of him losing his job. It is ethically right for Eric to report his discovery to OSHA and get a lawyer in the event that he loses his job. It is the most ethical and respectable thing for Eric to do because the manufacturing plant needs to be held accountable for ill activities.
