Error Recovery Requires a Nurse

I agree with the post that error recovery requires a nurse to have effective strategies that can help detect and correct errors. The healthcare environment is dynamic, and this requires that the nurses put their full potential based on their education and experience to keep the patients safe ( Gaffney, Hatcher & Milligan, 2016 ). Nurses play major roles in both error prevention and recovery to ensure that patients are not harmed by any error that might occur during treatment. Despite the numerous efforts that have been put in place to prevent medical errors from taking place, the prevalence of medical errors in healthcare has remained a key issue in the sector. Nurses can play a role in the error recovery process by identifying, interrupting and correcting any errors on a timely basis to prevent harm and increase patients' safety and satisfaction. Error recovery helps improve the health outcome of the patient and allows them to advance to recovery process. 

I also agree with the post that error recovery directly impacts nurse leaders in any healthcare organization. It is the role of the nurse leader to introduce the right strategies that can be used to detect errors early enough to increase the safety of the patients. Error prevention and recovery need to begin from the point of diagnosis through to the pharmacy where the patient is issued with medications. As a nurse leader, it is the responsibility to design the right procedure that can be used to improve the quality of the care through error reduction and recovery. Such strategies should allow for the identification, interruption, and correction of any error that could arise during the treatment. Quality should remain the goal of every nurse leader, and he/she should provide the right leadership and direction for the team members to enhance care quality.
