Essential I: Liberal Education for Baccalaureate Generalist Nursing Practice

Summary

The Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) defines liberal education as a type of education that fosters high-level intellectual and practical skills that are based on across different fields of study (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2019). From a nursing perspective, liberal education reflects on both the sciences and the arts with the intention being towards establishing a clear framework through which to help improve on both current and emerging generalist nursing practice. The adoption of liberal education creates a front through which to ensure that nurses are well positioned in their bid to dealing with different issues associated with their professional position. Additionally, liberal education will also help provide nurses with what can be termed as liberal judgment while ensuring that they are a clear understanding of the policies and standards that define their approach to service delivery. Lastly, the integration of liberation and nursing education is much more likely to provide nurses with a clear understanding of human culture as a key determinant of the services offered.

Essential II: Basic Organizational and Systems Leadership for Quality Care and Patient Safety

Summary

High quality patient care is determined by a wide array of factors including the organizational and systems leadership, constant improvement of quality, and safety. Baccalaureate graduates find themselves in a rather proactive position allowing them to understand the processes involved in quality improvement, as well as, the expected outcome measures (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2019). In other words, this means that the graduates will be rather effective in ensuring that they adoption structured approaches to improving on the element of quality. On the other hand, it can be argued the graduates will be in a position to provide quality care not only when supervised but also when by themselves. That can only be achieved based on the fact that the graduates are well trained to recognize both safety and quality measures with the intention being towards defining their service delivery plans.

Outcomes Met:

Outcome 3 : Demonstrate an awareness of complex organizational systems.

Outcome 7 : Promote factors that create a culture of safety and caring.

Outcome 8 : Promote achievement of safe and quality outcomes of care for diverse populations.

Essential III: Scholarship for Evidence-Based Practice

Summary

The ability for nurses to deliver on the best possible outcomes depends wholly on their ability to translate evidence into practice, which is what baccalaureate graduates are trained to do in their bid to ensuring that the quality of care offered is maximized (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2019). The graduates find themselves in a unique position that guarantees efficiency in monitoring patient outcomes, as well as, ensuring that they are able to identify underlying practice issues. The graduates are also accorded information that they would use in their bid to developing evidence that they would later use as part of their standard approach through which to deliver on the best possible health care services. The transition of the graduates into the nursing practice will be defined by the fact that they are able to build on their capacities to create a much more effective position through which to engage as professionals in their respective fields of practice.

Outcomes Met:

Outcome 1 : Explain the interrelationships among theory, practice, and research.

Outcome 3 : Advocate for the protection of human subjects in the conduct of research.
