The course entitled ‘Essentials of Nursing Research’ has played a significant role in my nursing program through presenting concepts on evidence-based practice and research approaches reflected towards delivering quality care to patients. Through the course, I have clearly understood the role of research in gaining nursing knowledge among other learning approaches necessary for applying validated interventions. In addition, describing basic nursing concepts, methodologies and techniques were some of the course objectives. In the learning process, I have discussed various nursing concepts and theories together with evidence-based practices that have been presented as problem-solving approaches for clinical practices and nursing problems.
Patient care has been the main concern throughout my nursing program. The course has played a significant role in presenting different researchable clinical nursing problems such as staff turnover and patient care related problems. Moreover, I have gained the research techniques necessary for improving patient outcomes. Furthermore, I have learned how to use information technology in the retrieval of hierarchical levels of evidence necessary for addressing clinical questions. Throughout the course, my knowledge has been on evidence-based practice that has been fostered by a guide to best practice by Melnyk et. al, (2015).

Also, developing clinical expertise was among the objectives of the course in line with the nursing program. The course incorporated randomized controlled trials and integration of research findings into the nursing practice. Through these practices, I have met the changing needs of patients and gained a professional nursing experience through the employment of professional standards governing the nursing profession. In addition, I have built an understanding of ethical considerations of nursing research and evidence-based practice which was among the course objectives. Also, the course has equipped me with the skills necessary for providing patient-centered care and translating research findings into clinical practice. Henceforth, the outcomes of the course will improve my decision making based on scientific research and evidence-based practices hence improving patient care.
