The conditions of detention in the present day have numerous similar characteristics, which were of concern to the National Commission for the Protection of Human Subjects of Biomedical and Behavioral Research (NCPHSBBR) a few years ago. The NCPHSBBR addressed two key ethical considerations of detainees that mostly focused on the respect and justice for prisoners and guards (Kleinig, 2017). A state with a prison such as Camp X Ray prison proves that the ethical considerations of prisoners are corrupted since in Camp X Ray, ethical considerations of detainees were not followed. This is evident in a number of situations where detainee Ali and female guard, Cole, is disrespected in few situations.

Further, in judging the ethical position of a state with a prison such as Camp X-Ray, I would say that there are numerous ethical controversies in governing of prisons in such a state. The ethical framework of prisons requires that detainees are respected and subjected to fair treatment as the rest of the prisoners (Kleinig, 2017). It further requires that all guards be governed by similar rules where they are supposed to protect the detainees’personal autonomy and dignity. According to the law of respect and dignity, it is required that all prisoners should be safeguarded against exploitation; hence, the main reason guards are introduced is to minimize the elements of limitations (Kleinig, 2017). In the same vein, prisons should be held responsible for the health status of inmates, thus it is their duty to protect their prisoners from mental and other health problems. However, instead of the Camp X-Ray prison utilizing the protectionist perspective of prisoners, they are doing the contrary of that. In the prison, detainee 471 has a mental problem where his file shows several attempts of suicide (Kleinig, 2017). However, instead of the prison protecting him and subjecting him to special treatment, they let him struggle with the problem. Further, Ransdell orders the female guard, Amy, to watch the detainee shower, which is against the detainee’s religious law as an Islam. This leads to the prisoner almost committing suicide, which shows the violation of human respect and dignity. It also shows the manipulation of prisoners and guards by the senior officers whom we expect to be responsible for protecting the inmates and guards lives. Thus, a state with similar prisons shows the ethical violation (Kleinig, 2017).
