Ethics are rules that govern human beings on how to behave and on how they are supposed to be living. They go hand in hand with decision making. They help an individual in making tough and wise decisions in a dilemma where needed. To understand how to make tough decisions, someone has to understand more about ethics. According to natural law by Aquinas, ethical decisions depend on judgments with the perception of reasoning and logic. When reason a case, the decision reached should be based on facts to ensure good faith. Ethics is not the same as feeling though they have a lot in common since they help someone in making ethical decisions. Ethics also do not depend on religion. They apply to everyone despite their religion.

Ethics are not laws. Law can go contrary to ethics and do not incorporate too many ethical standards in the regulations. Ethics is also not following the needs and regulation of your cultural background and norms. These are where the saying, “when in Rome, do as Romans do” came which confirms the conceptualization. According to virtue ethics by Aristotle, individuals should maintain a virtuous disposition with the a im of protecting others when making a decision . These help in practice during decision making. The first one is to identify your feelings. These are also called conscience. Our feelings tend to tell us how our mind is working. There are different methods of tackling problems according to different feelings. One should have a clear mind when making an ethical decision. The next important point is to be able to gather the facts. The facts should not favor the person making the decision, but the individual should be as neutral as possible. Although utilitarianism ethical theory argues decision making should not be self-centered, the feeling of the decision maker needs consideration in benefiting other stakeholders. These mark the start of decision making and is of great impact on the decision made . If the facts gathered are wrong, the possibility is that the decision made is wrong. You should be able to interpret those facts to understand their meaning to you and also to the people around.

Be able to guess the possibilities. These help someone to guess the outcomes of their decision and hence increasing the chances of getting the desired results. When making a decision , someone should be prepared to handle all the future possibilities brought about by the decision made. Ask yourself if you can live with or handle the made decision and the possibilities. According to the theory of justice by Rawls, decision making should not be ignorant of the implications of the results. The decision made should be concrete such that the individual making the decision should not be guilty of the decision that he or she has made. They should also be able to explain to other people who may ask the reasons for the decision made. There is a very good way of knowing if you made an ethical decision. Other people should gauge you since no one is perfect in any way. These ethical considerations make an outstanding personal tool when making decisions. Ethical concepts should be the guard of making a personal ethical tool in everyday life.
