Nurses have a critical role to play with respect to upholding patient autonomy. Nurses are supposed to respect the values, thoughts, and actions of their patients. They should train themselves on how not to let their values and implicit bias overshadow the needs and desires of their patients ( Vitale, Massaro, & Fortunato, 2019). In this regard, nurses should uphold their role of advocacy in creating an ethical environment of respecting patent autonomy.

Advocacy entails advising patients, acting as a liaison, sharing all relevant information with patients, making recommendations, and assisting them in making informed decisions. This means that nurses are supposed to inform their patients of all possible alternatives of treatment they have. They are also required to advise them accordingly while helping them make informed decisions ( Blackburn et al., 2018) However, they should respect the final decisions of their patients even if they do not choose the best alternative. Patient autonomy requires clinicians to respect the decisions of patients irrespective of whether they are right or wrong. For instance, a nurse should recognize their patients if they choose not to go for chemotherapy to cure end-stage cancer but die out peacefully.

I can overcome a quality ethical practice by being culturally sensitive to support the wellbeing of all humans. Cultural sensitivity is essential since it allows people to understand and respect others amidst their diversity. Cultural sensitivity will enable people to learn more about others ( Yilmaz, Toksoy, Direk, Bezirgan, & Boylu, 2017) . I would, therefore, learn about different people and their cultures while providing care to them without being discriminatory . I would also teach others on how they could be culturally sensitive and respect others irrespective of their diversity. Teaching others spreads the ethical practice across different disciplines to create a better society that respects the differences of people.
