Internet and computers has expanded ways in which counsellors and clients are engaging in career counselling. It is a common thing for counsellors to incorporate their technology and distance communication into their practice, they have been using telephones to help their clients. Today, there are new methods of communication such as email, voice over IP, online chat, weblogs, and video conferencing. I find this method appropriate and exciting since it creates the opportunity for homebound individuals, or geographically isolated due to physical disability or mental illness. These individuals can receive services that they would otherwise not have received. Also, it suits well those people who want to keep their personal life anonymous.

Despite the advantages associated with online career counselling, there are some challenges that are associated with it as well. Some untested legal issues such as coverage of malpractice insurance and practicing across state lines may arise in this counselling method. Also, not all career concerns are suited for online counseling, there are only few graduate training programs that are preparing counselors for online services. In addition, access to the high-speed internet limits people from accessing career counseling services online.

Online career prevalence is most likely to grow in future. Every day, technological advancements are made, and people are continually getting exposed to these advances. As a result, online career counseling will continue taking places, and more people will continue adopting it.

I do not agree with the Einstein quote,” it has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity”. I contend that as we continue advancing in technology, the connection among humans becomes more. Einstein was basing his statement on warfare advances, but when viewed on communication perspective, the technology is doing a fantastic job of bringing the world together.
