Lawson sought the directives of his seniors by forwarding his findings and recommendations on the failures of the four-disk brakes. He shifted from one senior personnel to another seeking their support on preventing the fraudulent deal from materializing on the basis of breached integrity of the material. When his seniors rejected his proposal, he decided to cooperate. Vandivier tried to avoid participating in the fraud by seeking counsel from Gretzinger. Gretzinger, who was hell-bent on preventing the fraud from taking place, refused to cooperate but eventually gave in after realizing that he was on the brink of losing his job. After Gretzinger’s submission, Vandivier also cooperated for the fear of becoming jobless.

Initially, the three characters decided to uphold integrity in the operations. They reasoned that morality and workplace ethics are equally as valid as other job qualifications. The three noted that if the organization proceeded to sell the faulty four-disk brakes to LTV, the lives of the test pilots would be at risk. However, after the realization that their lack of cooperation would cost them their jobs, they opted to play along and safeguard the family needs.

Vandivier’s move to blow the whistle over the matter was justified because the outcome of the fraud would be severely impactful to himself, Goodrich cooperation, and the LTV’s pilots.

Vandivier was morally required to expose the fraud as an obligation of obeying the ethical and professional standards. First, as a professional in the field of aviation, one is morally obliged to ensure his personal safety and that of the others who are impacted by his decisions. This meant that he should not have written a report which misrepresented information in such a way as to conceal an impending danger. This also goes hand in hand with the need to embrace workplace integrity.

Goodrich should have taken responsibility for their substandard designs and pledge to make up for it by delivering quality brakes to LTV. It would should effect disciplinary measures to the personnel who fail to play their roles effectively in the future.
