The speaker’s point of view in the video is that the poor are more or less a negligible part of the law systems in the world. He indicates that poverty is the root of most problems that affect the world. He is not biased since he gives a clear explanation of the situation by not only focusing on issues in Africa, but also those in Asia and America (TED, 2019). The speaker discussed the ethical issue where the poor have no backing from the law, hence leaving them to suffer in abject poverty and crimes such as rape and wrongful evictions. He uses the example of a woman in Oregon, who was unable to receive help after making a call against an intruder since the state did not provide law enforcement in her area during weekends due to budget cuts.
Poverty is the greatest ethical concern in the modern day world. It not only has ethical implications due to the daily issues it causes, but also the numerous evils that stem from it. The poor are more likely to be susceptible to exploitive activities such as the example of the man in South Asia in the video who was a slave in a rice mill just because he could not afford basic needs (TED, 2019). He continued to work there regardless of the evils occurring under the same roof. Moreover, most rich people have more money than they could ever need hence drawing questions on why other people should have so much while others have nothing.

The speaker’s point of view is valid and acceptable. His arguments are agreeable since he draws attention to most of the issues that people with good living standards fail to notice in the world. He uses the example of Venus to show how most charity interventions will never solve the main underlying issues (TED, 2019). Venus’ poverty was as a result of unlawful eviction which would never receive aid from charities. It is also unethical that people living under the poverty line are deemed unrecognizable under the law. The speaker simply provokes a change of thought towards the issue of poverty.
