The moral value of developing a passion for nursing fosters effectiveness in treating disease and saving lives. My colleague in the nursing profession relied on credible self-reflection, as an ethical value, in adjusting to a change in routine. The routine change resulted in the assignment of my colleague to the role of feeding aged patients in our hospital. Majority of male nurses do not appreciate being assigned the role of feeding patients in the ward. However, through ethical self-reflection, my colleague developed an essential passion for the new role, and the phenomenon has resulted in improvement in the performance of my colleague in saving lives. The development of passion in the nursing career helps in enhancing a nurse's dedication to intervening in the health issues of various patients (Mungal et al., 2020, p. 45). Indeed, nurses who are satisfied and passionate in their work do not experience burnouts while in the line of duty. Passion in nursing careers is developed through a series of self-reflections, which results in the attainment of a sense of fulfillment.
My colleague's application of self-reflection in the nursing practice resulted in a transformation of learning and practicing experiences in the profession. I feel that my colleague is achieving holistic functionality in his assigned duties because of the sense of self-satisfaction and empowerment that results from ethical self-reflection. My colleague has succeeded in reversing the effects of the new job description for him, and instead, his ethical consciousness resulted in holistic satisfaction in the execution of the nursing roles. Besides, ethical self-reflection enabled my colleague to develop a healthy relationship with himself and other practitioners in the working place. Credible self-reflection helps an individual in realizing and appreciating their space and role in society (Gerdin et al., 2019, p. 26). The phenomenon results in improved interpersonal relationships both at the workplace and at home. The ethical value of self-reflection has aided my colleague in identifying and appreciating his space and role in the nursing profession.
