An ethnocentric point of view is when an individual assesses another place’s way of life according to the predeterminations of another person's ethics and the traditions of his or her cultural background. For example, in business, when a company declines partnership with a company from a developing country due to the knowledge that a developing country is inferior to developed ones. On the other hand, a culturally relative point of view is when an individual embraces his beliefs, activities, and lives out according to his or her own culture, rather than being adjudged on the criteria of another. For example, when tourists visit African countries, they are allowed to carry out activities according to their cultural background without prejudice instead of feeling as though they have to fit in.
In the video, cultural relativity is witnessed when the two Kenyans wore their traditional outfits when going to Texas, despite their knowledge of how the people from Texas dressed. In addition to that, they sang their classic songs when taking care of the cows in Texas, just like they did in their own homes. Ethnocentrism is seen when the people from Texas judged the way the two Kenyans dressed. They looked at them in shock when they saw their dressing; some of them even asked them where their shirts were. In another instance, Jimmy, their host told them that for them to go to the ranches for a tour of how cows are taken care of in Texas; they had to dress like cowboys. In their own country, the Kenyans had no code for dressing while taking care of their animals. Also, unlike in the Kenyans’ native land, the cows in the ranch in Texas were brought by the host’s grandmother when she was married to his grandfather.
