The presentation starts out with an excited audience due to the popularity of the speaker: Miss Oprah Winfrey. The introduction therefore captured the audience's attention. Once settled in, the speaker goes on to personalize her presence at the event with a notification for one of her “Oprah Winfrey Academy” beneficiaries and the journey albeit rough that the young lady has come through and at this ceremony attaining a Masters degree.  The audience at this introductory phase is pensive mostly very silent until the speaker breaks the ice with the allusion of the activities that will follow the ceremony.

The preceding conversation goes on to lay bare the facts on the ground for this new class of Journalism students. Winfrey points harsh reality of the social media pandemic or epidemic in determining personal expression.  From advertisers getting to know our desires to reduced attention spans as well as misinformation. The speaker analyses that all these happenings have come and/or are in direct competition against major news outlets.

However, it is not all doom and gloom for this new graduating class. The speaker goes on to encourage them that they make a daily choice to show case honesty, as the truth exonerates, convicts, disinfects and galvanizes. The speaker finally goes on to speak of the truth as a shield against corruption, greed and despair. Overall the speech was very inspiring, and the audience equally engaged.
