A constitution protects the rights of people who are entitled to it; therefore, its legal principles of operation must be understood to apply. According to Lyman (2017), a criminal investigation is an area where immense constitutional guidelines on search, search time, and what to be searched apply. Every suspect has a legal right, which must be respected; thus, all interrogations are expected to be justifiable under the law.

Style of Interrogation

Police interrogation on Lish Cayde follows a face-saving approach and rapport-based style. In the case, Lish is thought to be responsible for the death of Jerimiah Paiz after stabbing him severally in a fight. The suspect avails himself at the police department where Ben Mittelstadt's a detective in the section, carries on with the investigation. While being interviewed, the detective persuaded the suspect to believe the number of times he stabbed the victim is what he should worry more about (Gene, 2013); as such, Mittelstadt uses a face-saving interrogative style to try to justify the act of stabbing.

The detector can obtain information by sharing his thoughts emotionally with the suspect concerning the incident, thereby turning him into confessing. Equally, the investigator pushes Lish into admitting his crime as something that anybody else could do in such a situation while allowing him to narrate the whole story. Moreover, the detective has a sympathetic tone that calms the suspect when he asks if he remembers anything regarding the fight, thereby showing concern and a need for trust.

Room Setting

While conducting an investigation, a suspect's privacy must be observed. At all costs, the detective should make the environment friendly, which makes suspects confess their acts without being suspicious. Based on the room setting where Lish is being interviewed, the interrogation surroundings are comfortable to the suspect. Concerning the magnitude of the crime the suspect is being accused of, there is an automatic assumption that the atmosphere should be such severe that it brings fear to the suspect luring him into confessing. However, the room setting is friendly; face-to-face communication is possible in addition to the exchange of gestures.

The detector appears in casual clothing with no files making it a comfortable tension-free atmosphere. Despite the room being neatly furnished, I would have changed some things on the sitting position; the table should be placed at the center, allowing the detective and the suspect to be side by side. Additionally, the clock on the wall and the empty chair might be removed to minimize distractions.

The Legality of the Interrogation

Based on how the investigations on Lish have been conducted, everything looks legal. The suspect appears at the police department willingly and gives his testimonies without being forced. All the warnings regarding the conduct case were provided just before the investigation commenced (RCI, 2020), a legal process for such crimes in the United States. Additionally, there was no exploitation of suspect rights by the investigator to persuade him into confessing; for instance, no violence or threats were issued; instead, the detective was wise in using investigative techniques. There was also legality in searches conducted. A district judge issued a warrant to the detective to investigate Lish cellphone (Gene, 2013).
