Evidence-based practice entails incorporating scientific evidence in healthcare practices. The scientific evidence is primarily incorporated into decision making. As one of the best problem solving approaches, evidence-based practices has been beneficial for continuous improvement of healthcare services, and policies and as a result resulted in the overall improvement of the quality of healthcare across the world. On the other hand, the Quadruple Aim is centered on four overarching goals of healthcare delivery. The goals are enhancing the patients’ experience of healthcare services through service quality and satisfactions, enhancing health in populations, reducing the per capita healthcare costs, and enhancing the work and life of the health workers. Since the main aim of evidence based practice is to ensure patients safety and high quality healthcare service, it is in line with the quadruple aim in healthcare. While evidence-based practices seek to achieve its objective through using reliable scientific evidence to shape decisions and practices, the quadruple aim seeking to achieve its objective through a redesign of healthcare facilitates. In this regard, evidence-based practice can be effective in providing scientific knowledge for guiding decision making during the process of redesigning the healthcare system.

Improving patient experience

Evidence-based practices techniques enable healthcare providers to translate scientific research results into clinical practice and significantly improve the quality of healthcare services they deliver to patients. Evidence-based practice is thus instrumental in improving patient experience since most healthcare provider now use evidence based techniques to solve challenges and make decisions that directly influence patients care (Crabtree, Brennan, Davis, & Coyle, 2016). The techniques and solution improve patient experiences through quality healthcare and more patients report satisfaction with the services.

Population health

Evidence-based practices usually facilitate public education in communities. The public health education includes information on determinants of health, benefits and limitations of various treatments, and impacts of cultural practices on health, among others. Evidence-based practices also enable healthcare providers to understand communities better and thus serve these communities appropriately. The evidence from research and the understanding of different communities also helps shape policies to better serve community needs through proper allocation of resources to specific aims. Specific communities can be mapped and classified based on their health care needs, and health care resources among others. Efforts can then be made to ensure equity and efficient resource allocation for health promotion. The community’s health then improves due to improved healthcare information, targeted services and overall service quality.

Reducing per capita healthcare costs

The measure of per capita costs of healthcare services is usually an enormous challenge (Sikka, Morath, Leape, 2015). To determine the accurate costs of healthcare, providers need to capture the expenditure incurred in delivery of healthcare, and the actuals costs based on the heath care market. Most institutions usually encounter challenges when they have to deliver quality services at low costs. In order to maintain quality of serves while reducing costs, health care providers and institutions have to adopt new technologies to enhance efficiency. They also have to embrace novel treatment modalities that arise from evidence-based practice. As a result, the providers and institutions can realize improvement in service quality while reducing costs.

The work and life of the healthcare providers

Healthcare workers are a critical component the delivery of healthcare services. It is difficult to improve the quality of healthcare services without improving the productivity of healthcare workers. In these regard it is always necessary to train the healthcare staff appropriately, motivate them and provide them with the proper means to deliver quality services (Sikka, Morath, and Leape, 2015). Evidence-based practice helps overcome work-life challenges that affect health care providers. Evidence-based practices can help plan staffing as well as nursing shifts and thus prevents professional burnouts that often kill the workers enthusiasm, lower their sense of accomplishment and encourage cynicism. With burnouts, errors increase and service quality and patient satisfaction decline. Evidence-based practices help reduce and eliminate challenge experience by healthcare workers, through shaping workforce decisions and thus promote staff productivity. Also according to Kim et al. (2016) striking a work life balance for the staff improves cohesion among the staff resulting in quality service delivery.

In a nutshell, evidence based practices provides quality data that helps shape the implementation of the quadruple aim in health care. On the other hand, information need for the implementation of Quadruple aim objectives can help direct evidence based research in the search to the appropriate scientific data to health care practices and policies.
