The healthcare system in the United States has gone through drastic changes in the recent two generations and it continues to evolve day in day out. Various factors have contributed to the advancement in the healthcare systems which include, growth in the U.S population, improvement in the health service delivery technologies, increase in the reliance on drugs and the related pharmaceutical costs, the rising cost of insurance, higher malpractice of insurance organizations among others.
In the past, health insurance service providers were not involved in the patients’ health decision-making process and their role was just to write cheques for reimbursing the health service provider. In the current United States healthcare sector, the health insurance service providers are engaged in the decision-making process of things that pertain to the health of an insured patient. Unlike in the earlier days where the insurer would not consider many details when writing reimbursement cheques, today they are concerned with how much health care a patient receives, who offered it and even decide on the changes that should be made on the care delivered.

Medical science and technology have shifted from simple and primitive to complex technological applications that can solve almost any issue pertaining to patient health ( Conklin, 2002 ). The health sector evolution has seen the introduction of technologies such as bacteriology, immunology and antisepsis among others. There has been the realization of gadgets that help in ease of problem discovery such as x-ray and MRI machines.
In recent days, as opposed to the past, health policies such as Obamacare have been enacted that are aimed at patient protection and the provision of affordable health services. The policies help manage all the health institutions ensuring that regardless of the institution type, a patient can get quality health services.
From this lesson, I have learned that there is advancement in health care services delivery such as involvement of the insurance companies in patient health care delivery. I have learned that there are policies that I need to adhere to as a hospital administrator for the smooth running of processes in my hospital.
