In the paper below, we will focus on the issues surrounding the migration of Nigerians into Britain and their experiences while in Britain. The presence of Nigerians in Britain can be traced to the forced migration from Africa during the slave trade. This resulted in the massive inflow of Nigerians in the country (Britain) who have since evolved economically, and politically. The findings in the essay below, however, are based on existing literature that discusses the dispersal of Blacks and Africans from there cradle lands to the Western European countries.
According to several studies, before slave trade began, migration into Britain was voluntary and minimal while during the slave trade, it was forced and massive. Nigerians who were forced to settle in Britain joined other slaves and black soldiers in forming communal networks where it was easier for them to interact and feel less discriminated. The term African diaspora is not unique to Nigerians, but it is essential to set Nigerians in the West aside since their plight and issues are distinctively identifiable like those of the Filipino diaspora. One of the factors contributing to the massive migration of Nigerians citizens is the economy of their country and globalization. This is because; despite the massive oil reserves there are more financial opportunities outside Nigeria. Their migration is due to the poor economic state of their country. Those who migrate to Britain do so in search of better opportunities and living conditions. Therefore, financial reasons are a primary driver for the Nigerian migration.

Political reasons have also led to the migration of several Nigerians in the regimes of Sani Abacha and Ibrahim Babangida. Those who migrated were forced into migration since the regimes were intolerant of critics. Educational reasons have also been attributed to the emergence of the Nigerian diaspora in search of better education and different skills. However, these immigrants are continually faced with accusations of forgery due to expired visas which lead to their deportation.
Finally, Nigerians in the diaspora unite and foster unity even when abroad by coming together within various networks and take care of each other mainly due to the discrimination that they encounter due to their color.
