Right the way up, in supermarkets, greengrocers, bakers, in factories and farms, we were hemorrhaging out food. I’d been around the back of the supermarket. I’d seen bins full of food,” (Stuart, 2012)

The incidences quoted by the speaker refer to clear indications that food waste needs management. The first advice obtained from the talk related to Channeling of food waste into Production of surplus food. For instance, food served in school for the students sometimes does not get consumed entirely. The leftover food gets thrown into the dustbin as waste. Second, hotels prepare large amounts of food for sale. When the food meant for selling do not get consumed wholly by the customers, eventually the food ends in the bins as food waste. The speaker advises that the food waste thrown away can get converted to production of extra food. The surplus food can be achieved by, the collection of the food waste and feeding it to domestic animals. For instance, the food waste fed to pigs which in turn produce pork. The Pork obtained refers to the extra amount of food acquired. The food waste can also be channeled to the farm and used as organic manure that enhances soil fertility. The presence of fertile soil in our farms leads to high levels of food production.

Food disposal is an exhibition of the injustice of food, and the provision of the solution to food waste, which is simply to sit down and eat food, rather than throwing it away,” (Stuart, 2012)

Sitting down to eat the food refers to giving away the extra food to those who do not get food enough to eat. The act of sharing food got backed up in the discussion where the speaker talks about, different rates of food production in various countries.

Western countries produce high amounts of food that can sustain their population and remain. For example, the US as a country produces four times the amount of food required to feed its people. On the other hand, we also have states that can hardly feed their people. These countries experience extreme levels of hunger and poverty. The presence of high amounts of food in the western countries shows that they got a lot at their disposal. The surplus food produced by these countries ends up in the stomach of their beasts. For instance, wheat that gets eaten by the horses. These animals convert the food to waste products which might not be useful in the production of food. Since globalization has taken place in almost all areas of the world, taking care of our neighbors remains a duty to everyone. The amount of food left in the western countries can be channeled to those developing countries to enhance our world aim which is to feed the entire globe.

Bananas all being discarded. This is one day’s waste,” (Stuart, 2012)

Preservation facilities can get employed or used to enhance curbing of such food wastes. Lastly, environmental preservation refers to one of the significant factors contributing to food production. For instance, cutting down of trees to create surplus land for production remains a negative thing. Clearing of the trees may end up causing the water shortage. Trees form forests that act as water catchment areas and sources of our rivers. The inadequacy of water leads to dryness of the land hence no food production. Emission of dangerous chemicals to the environment can also lead to soil pollution. Some of the chemical wastes released to the atmosphere may lead to land degradation hence no production of food.
